After getting swept by the Cards with our best pitchers it's obvious that we are more than one hitter away from being able to compete with them.
Lance Berkman and Craig Biggio did close to nothing this entire series... you're not going to win many games like that. 4-3 (in 13) 4-2 3-0 We got progressively worse each game, but they were ALL winnable (with maybe the exception of today... Carpenter was not going to be denied no matter who was up there. He's shut down much better lineups than ours this year).
We're not a bad or a pitcher away from them - nor are probably any other teams in baseball. They score more runs than any team in the NL and allow fewer - so they have the best pitching and hitting in baseball. Our goal is to make the playoffs - then in short series, you hope for some luck. All we have to do is win one on the road and win all the home games. The last three WS winners have been wild card teams - you don't have to be the best team in the league to win the World Series, and the best team in the league doesn't win the World Series all that often ... you just have to make the playoffs and get on a bit of a hot streak.
I freakin' watched Pujols hit that damn HR on friday night... I was so PO'd, but thought they'd come thru on Sat or Sun, but to no avail...This just confirms we need another bat...
