JOSH PHELPHS just got designated for assignment should we the astros take a chance

St. Petersburg, FL (Sports Network) - The Tampa Bay Devil Rays designated first baseman/designated hitter Josh Phelps for assignment on Tuesday. The Rays now have 10 days to trade, release or ask waivers on Phelps.

Phelps, who signed a free agent deal with Tampa in the offseason, appeared in 47 games this season for Tampa and hit .266 with five homers and 26 RBI. For his career, the 27-year-old Phelps owns a .269 average with 57 homers and 212 RBI.

Phelps, who has also played with Toronto and Cleveland, finished sixth in AL Rookie of the Year voting in 2002 despite not joining the Blue Jays until July 2.

He is a good hitter but he can't field so I doubt it. More of a DH type but I love the Astros to pick him up, but knowing Tim, he won't.

Let's see...Phelps is a 1B who is bad defensively and was just cut by Tampa. Why exactly is this a player you guys want? We already have Mike Lamb.

This guy never could put his talent together. In 2003 he hit a ball into the 4th deck at the SkyDome.
