I haven't played this game since February, so when I played a bit last night I was a little shocked to see that I have been bumped down to level "0" in all the multiplayer game types. What happened? All my old games from February are still on my gamelog on Bungie.net - did they reset everybody's level because of the cheaters? Or was it cause I didn't play for 3 months?
Yeah people were cheating and the rankings were all messed up. All the higher level games ended up being who could cheat first. A lot more balanced now..
If it's an online service, dumbasses will find a way to cheat on it/with it. XBOX Live is as invulnerable as anywhere else.
How would they cheat? Gameshark controllers? Spawn camping? Bots? Mods? How could someone load a "cheat" program up through Xbox/Xbox Live?
So, the cheaters won in the end? For all the honest people who didn't cheat...they got screwed on their stats. They should have just figured out who was cheating and reset their stats. Of course, that would have been too difficult. Ah...who cares!
Well Bungie also had to reset the rankings when the new maps and playists came out, so it wasn't JUST about the cheaters...but hey, my ranking's higher than it was before anyways so it doesn't bother me
There were a few ways I think, but there was one that was used the most IIRC called the "standby" cheat where the cheaters would reset their modem or something to that effect, sending everybody else to the blue screen, and then you'd come back on and while you were stuck on the blue screen, they'd be off killing you or capturing flags. It really ruined the game, I have no idea why any idiot would care that much to do it. You might as well just set up a two player game with one player only and then shoot the other player continuously - functionally its the same thing. Fun. Glad to see its been fixed, apparently, but it still sucks to have to re-build.
While it sucks, it is much better in the long run. Now you don't have games where you might as well quit because you can't win vs. the cheaters. Standby, and other glitches within some maps have all been fixed. My ranking is a lot higher than it was before, thanks to this I believe. We should start back up the ClutchFans Halo2 Clan!
One cheat I was involved in...here is the story. It was a Bomb game on the level with the half built building in the middle and the beam thats on a crane (dont know what its called). Anyway, the team I was on was winning, and so the other side decided to cheat. They get the banshie (The one that flys) take their bomb and fly onto of another building where no on can get them. The idea is that the other side eventually quits and they get an easy win. Not this time.... The team I was on didnt give up. We were alls trangers and we had NO IDEA what was going on. We eventually worked it out and the battle started... A 3 minute round ended up going for FOUR HOURS! We eventaully found a way to kill them and we blew up the banshie so they couldnt take it again. We ended up beating the cheater is a VERY satisfying win.
That's not really a cheat, it's a p***y tactic, but at least it's in-game, not a hack like standby cheating.
Basically, the standby cheaters just had a little program they ran to throttle the bandwith on their connection, allowing them to continue moving but not allowing updates to take place on other people's boxes. From what I understand, if your box drops more than a certain % of packets over a certain period of time, you are booted from the game and flagged as a possible cheater.
I had a VERY similar game on Headlong (the name that escaped you) a while back. Maybe we were in it together and just didn't know.
Is their an online game for FA-18 aerial dogfights or anything like it? I'd be interested in a flight game like that.
