I just started a new job and the company that does the background checking from my company is giving me a hard time about my previous employment. I wrote down I started a job in January but when they got the report from my old company it said i started in February. It seems like such a small thing but can and will a company let you go for something like this? Any HR people here?
This is from January 2003 so no i don't. If the company said I started in January instead of Febrauary, I am sure they are right. I just thought wrong, but will my company let me go for something incidental like that?
Why would you put down incorrect info on your app about something that's unlikely to help you land a job, but is quickly verifiable? I woulda at least checked to make sure I was putting down the right dates.
It wasn't like I ment to lie. I just thought I started in January and not February, but I guess I was wrong. I mean do people actually remember every date when they started and left a company?
I doubt it. Worst case, you may have to go back and redo your application so that it is accurate. Yep, it's that stupid. And if they were to screw you around like that, they probably would end up being more of a headache to work for than it's worth.
Shouldn't be a big deal. If you're positive you started in January, tell 'em it must be some sort of clerical error. If you think it might have been February, tell 'em it must have been some sort of oversight on your part and you apologize for the mistake.
There's no way they will fire you over something that small, unless they were looking to fire you anyways and just wanted to make up an excuse. Good luck!
A company can fire you for practically anything if they want...except where it comes to some form of discrimination. That said...I would be very surprised if they let you go over something so harmless. However, they can always draw the conclusion you were lying and you may not be trustworthy going forward. I don't think anyone here can answer the question of if your employer will fire you. It sounds harmless enough. It's not like you said you started working for them in 1995 when you actually started in 1999. That would be blatant.
Depends on the company....many companies have a zero tolerance policy..regardless of how small the infraction/misinfo is
WHERE's YOUR POLL, man??? But seriously, I think you can explain. If they don't accept it, they're [J]azz-holes. They should have done the background checking BEFORE they hired you. If they knew this before, then it's their responsibility for not telling you they found out about it until now. I am no lawyer, I am just saying it's common sense, I think... CMIIAW
