The way their season has turned they probably would benifit having a comedian in the locker room to keep everyone loose.

ORLANDO, Florida -- With backup point guard Jameer Nelson likely to miss up to a week with a rib injury, the Orlando Magic signed fellow rookie Andre Barrett to a 10-day contract.

Barrett played in 27 games with the Houston Rockets this season and averaged 2.1 points and 1.6 assists in 11.6 minutes before being waived March 19. He scored a season-high 14 points December 7 against New Orleans.

Nelson, a 2004 first-round pick, had been serving as a backup to Steve Francis. With Nelson unavailable Wednesday, the Magic played Mark Jones for eight minutes off the bench in a 108-96 win over Toronto.

The Magic released Jones to make room on the roster for Barrett.

great news, he can latch on to another team and get some much needed experience, albeit, only for a stint. i hope he takes what he learns guarding stevie and jameer in practice and tries to battle for a roster spot here next year, good luck man.

Just wish it was for more than a 10 day. I think we are still paying him through next year, does his signing a 10 day nullify that.

Why all the knee jerk bashing? They were down to a single PG, and Barrett was available on the cheap. Did Weisbrod's press conference have a gigantic backdrop saying

What's wrong with Barrett? A lot of people liked him when he was here. For a 10 day contract, it looks like a good signing.
