So I accidentally deleted my document thinking I had saved it on my desktop as well as in My Documents, but deleted the document on the desktop and emptied the trash, then looked in my documents and wasnt there. Does anyone know how I can retrieve my paper? Any help is appreciated

I may be wrong, but I think Word automatically deletes the temporary file when you close out Word. Hope you weren't too far...

You should try to use the search function (remember any key words in title or certain distinct words in the document to seperate it from all the other documents) on your computer and let it scan all your files thoroughly.

This happens because the search function more than likely found the document under "Recent Documents" on your Start Menu (there is a folder called that on your system, which keeps the latest).

You may want to try searching for a back up in the temp folder of your machine at C:\Documents and Settings\your_username\Local Settings\ (replace with your_username in the WIndows System), or in C:\Documents and Settings\almanzam\Local Settings\ , there's gotta be a backup either in there or in "c:\My Documents" or in the My_Documents folder of your username folder. Either way, if your machine's last use of Word was for your document, it's there as the last thing WOrd created.

Try one of those and see what happens, or try reading the first few articles at: http://support.microsoft.com/search/default.aspx?qu=Recover+Deleted+Document
