    Check your email.

Haha, literacy. It is harder to test reading and writing, so that has been de-emphasized the last 4-8 years (I am not saying that is why literacy has declined over 30, just that it isn't important anymore). Bush vowed to continue the trend during the campaign.

Good show, giddy. That was worth bringing this thread back.

yeah, I really don't know how to check my email so much because I'm not seeing any new messages. Anyway, emails from BBS members are wierd. The only one I've ever got was B-Bob, and it was pretty much like, well I'm B-Bob, here's where I teach, yeah this is pretty pointless because we can talk on the BBS.

Maybe they are just coming slowly, or maybe since I work in the post office, I threw them out, because thats what I do with the mail of most people I don't like.

EDIT: my hotmail says I have one junk mail but everytime I click on it nothing is there, record of an email even. Oh well, point granted.

DOUBLE EDIT: I'm absent minded, it was the test email I sent myself through the BBS.

I don't know that that is true and I'm not quite sure that you do.

It really is immaterial anyway. They are not us and we are not them. Each nation has its own culture. Our culture used to be freely Judeo-Christian. That's eroding and this literacy issue may be part of the "collateral damage."

I interjected this note from TWW just to address the challenge to my suggestion that our schools' performance is in decline.

Consider the source: those middle of the roaders at "The West Wing."

I was just playing along with your quote. I have no idea whether the statistic is accurate or not.

I teach school, and I can tell you that having prayer allowed in school would not help or hurt literacy there.

Our culture is still freely Judeo Christian as much as ever it was. We just need to make sure that our govt. doesn't become aligned with Judeo Christian beliefs.

I'm not suggesting that it is a quid pro quo deal: having prayer in school will drive up school performance by the end of the semester! I do however think it is a factor that everyone who is a critic is underestimating because it is a civilizing factor for the school institution.

How is our culture as freely Judeo-Christian when we can't have nativities on public lands or Christmas Concerts in our public schools? Yes, it is largely as free but, as a famous man once said: ~ the longest journey begins with the first small step.

It is very different just in one generation. I'm sure schools are beter in some ways and worse in some ways, but I think the net effect is a loss and it has gotten very serious.

Every candidate has Educational Reform as one of their top three concerns. Would that be the case if schools were excellent... or even good?

Our culture is one thing, and government is another. The culture is just as freely religious, religion in government institutions is another thing.

For the record I'm not in favor of removing nativity scenes are anything like that. But I don't believe it makes for more civility. As statistics have shown our nation is as religious as it has been.
