    And why?....

I'm not talking who you think is the "best" of all-time, just your favorite.

    In no real order:

    1. Babe Ruth - Made baseball into a spectator sport. Meaning, he brought people to the stadiums in droves to see him hit a HR. In 1920, he hit 29 homers, that broke the old record that was like around 15. The next two years he hit 54 and 59, while batting .376 and .378. He was a talent and a character.

    2. Ted Williams - When someone asks me who my favorite baseball player is, this is the name I give them. He has 521 career HRs and a .344 career avg. Those 500 or so homers sound impressive, but when you factor in that he spent three entire seasons in WWII, in the prime of his career, it is even more so. Not only did he serve in WWII, in 1952 at the age of 34 he went and served in Korea too! You give him those four years and he ends up with around 650 HRs, 2300 RBI, and 2300 R.

    3. Nolan Ryan - I obviously like power. I just loved watching Ryan's rising fastball and his giant curve. I don't think anyone will ever challenge for his career strikeout record either. He had the talent, work ethic, health, and demeanor that guarantees the Hall of Fame.

    4. Mark McGwire - He's not "Babe Ruth", but he sure can hit home runs. He's a genuinely nice guy, plays hard, and plays through pain and injury. If McGwire had Ryan's health he'd have hit 800 HRs.

    5. Ricky Henderson - He's almost as good as he thinks he is. The dude will be FORTY TWO at the end of this year and he still has 35 steals this season. He has 1,369 stls, 2,057 bbs, 2,177 runs, a career on base % of .404, and is only 89 hits away from 3,000. I hope he comes back next year to get that.

    6. Willie Mays - Here's a guy who had the entire package: power, speed, defense, decent average. Here's another great player who served in the military.

    1. Babe Ruth - The man was the MJ of baseball back then. He dominated like no other man in the sport.

    2. Ted Williams - He defined fundamentals. He was the most well-rounded player ever.

    3. Roberto Clemente - Was an awesome talent that had his career ended tragically. Arguably the best right fielder ever to play the game.

    4. Jackie Robinson - Aside from breaking the color barrier in MLB the man stole home 19 times! Imagine what he could have accomplished if he had the chance to play more than 10 years.

    5. Satchel Paige - This guy had cojones the size of coconuts...oh and he could play some ball!! Going against Jim Crow laws, Sathel Paige traveled first class and wouldn't play where he couldn't get a meal or a room to sleep in. He pitched over 2,500 games and won 2,000 of them. He also pitched over 100 no-hitters in the Negro leagues and in the Majors.

Even though I hate watching baseball, I am fascinated by the history of it.
Babe Ruth, Joe D, Ted Williams, Mickey M, and Ken Griffey would be my favorite.

    1) Nolan Ryan. As soon as they got rid of him unjustly, I quit liking the 'Stros. He was my absolute idol. Even more than Dream since I grew up playing baseball.

    2) Greg Maddux. To me, just the best pitcher I have ever seen and could be considered the in the top 3 all time already. On his way to numero cinco in the Cy Young department. Eleventh straight Gold Gloves after this year. Check out his stats from 1992-95. Not even Pedro is doing that. Only Koufax and Gibson come close. Oh, and presently over 35 scoreless innings. Olajuwanesque if you ask me.

    3) Dale Murphy. My mom thought he was cute and that helped me root for the Bravos.

    4) Andruw Jones. The next fielding Willie Mays. May end up better. And still only 23.

    5) Chipper Jones. I love his assasin mentality. Especially against the Mets. Gives me reason to bash at all these idiotic Metfans.

Favorite's (not best) in no particular order.

Lou Whitaker- Second basemen for the Tigers in the 80's. Great defense, solid bat and half of one of the greatest double play combo's of all time.

Tom Glavine- Great competitor, winner, gets the most out of what he has.

Kirk Gibson- Ditto Glavine, plus "the" homerun.

Mike Schmidt-- Great D, Great offense, great guy.

Nolan Ryan--Fastball, fastball, fastball and the ability to beat Ventura senseless at an advanced age.
