I just got back from a neighbor's apartment. We were watching a fight between James Francis (?) and Steve Thompson. All I got to notice was that Francis was 70 pounds heavier than Thompson. Picture this if you will : 1) Bell rings. 2) Thompson bounces (no, really) towards Francis. 3) Francis unloads a bomb of a left hook on Thompson. 4) Thompson experiences what can be called "unbelievable inertial shift" and gets propelled across the ring about 5-6 feet. His head hits the bottom ring rope and he just stays down. They said the fight took 14 seconds, but I'm telling you right now it only took 4 seconds to land the punch; the rest must've been the count-out or something. It was the only punch thrown in the fight. I never laughed so hard in my life. If you guys are watching SportsCenter or your local tv news broadcast, I hope you get to see it because it's that funny. ------------------ Falk that Mo Fo!!!
Tyson knocked out Micheal Spinks in 91 seconds: The fight lasted just 91 seconds. This was the fourth shortest heavyweight championship fight in history. Absolutely no contest. ------------------ In order to be a success in life, you need 2 things: 1. Don't tell everything you know. CNBC is showing the USA olympic boxing team in action right now ------------------ In order to be a success in life, you need 2 things: 1. Don't tell everything you know.
I always get Spinks confused with Marvis Frazier. Didn't Tyson fight both? Which one was the one that was trying to escape Mike but his legs wouldn't follow the rest of his body? He kind of staggered around while his knees were wobbling. Yet another funny moment in boxing history. The fight with Thompson and Francis was a heavyweight fight, too, btw. Thompson was around 220 lbs and Francis was about 293. ------------------ Falk that Mo Fo!!! [This message has been edited by Dr of Dunk (edited September 18, 2000).]

The Tyson / Peter McNeeley fight was pretty funny. I was mad though, because we shoulda got to see Tyson put him on the mat again for all the money they were making. I still am mad about his trainer throwing in the towel. McNeeley was getting knocked down, but he wasn't groggy and was getting up quickly. Just because the guy had a chin crafted from the artisans at Mikasa, doesn't mean he was in danger of being seriously injured. Well, not more than anyone else Tyson has faced. Technically it wasn't a KO, I think it was a "disqualification" because the trainer came into the ring during the fight. ------------------ I have a dream.........his name's Hakeem. DREAMer, That was definitely a "take the money and run" performance by McNeely and his corner. ------------------ In order to be a success in life, you need 2 things: 1. Don't tell everything you know.
I don't think from watching the fight that you could get the idea that McNeeley was ready to quit and take the $$$. The decision to quit, was solely that of his corner. I have to give the guy credit for his guts. He was a crappy boxer, but man did he have guts. ------------------ I have a dream.........his name's Hakeem. DREAMer's Rocket Page
On a different note..... I LOVE watching the Prince fight...Naseem Hamed!! That little English, cocky SOB is a stud. Entertainment at its finest. ------------------ There is a very fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness."
