Franchise was a knuckle head and his game relied SOLELY on athleticism. As history showed, once he lost his burst he was toast. Absolutely not.

    How dare you:mad:
He was such a knucklehead that the NBA adjusted the rules to take away him and Cat’s ISO ball
Should have kept cat, Franchise and Yao together, but they hired Grumpy Van Gundy who didn’t know what to do with 2 athletic guards and a 7’6 center
Can u imagine Adelman getting the job and working with Cat and Franchise and Yao
    Cmon now

Whats odd is, Francis actually has his best shooting numbers with Hakeem. So its Hakeem and Rudy who made Francis better. Should have kept THAT core together :p jk. (Those Francis migraines helped the team suck into getting Yao)

Exactly! History is repeating itself with Udoka and this current team...Van Gundy preferred defensive minded players and he couldn't optimize the team with a Steve/Cat/Yao.
If Rudy T wouldn't have been diagnosed with cancer the year prior, we would've made the playoffs and Steve/Cat would have retired as Rockets

A lot of good players don’t just rely on “athleticism”. Having certain superior physical attributes is part of what makes players standout. That’s like saying if Kobe wasn’t athletic he wouldn’t be anything. Or if Wemby didn’t have 8 ft wingspan he wouldn’t be anything. Being physically gifted is part of what makes players special.

Francis was still skilled. It takes skill and coordination combined with speed, agility, and strength as a foundation for success in the NBA. And it takes a mental strength, awareness, and discipline which he didn’t have. He was by no means a knuckle head. Never got in trouble. Never had disciplinary problems. He was a man who loved the game had moderate success and who’s career was cut short due to injuries.

it was unbearable to watch that offense who never ran full court on the break and everything was a slow half court set with Yao on the post

It was tough for The coaches who transitioned from the 90’s to the 2000’s.

JVG struggled with it. He don’t want any player with intangible and uniqueness combined with individuality. I rmemeber Gerald Green first stint in Houston. He got inthe game during garbage minutes. Houston had a fast break and i think it was Luther head who threw the alley oop to Green and the crowd was going crazy and the camera panned over to JVg and he looked furiously frustrated at a moment that really meant nothing to the outcome of the game. He never played Head and Green together again. Not even in garbage time. He wouldn’t give VSpan a shot. If you wasn’t 30 or older, JVG wasn’t a fan of giving you minutes. At least Ime will play the younger players if they are committed to defense. Every playoff series we played, we were always the older and slower team, and teams like that wear down over 7 games. That was the difference with Adelman. He wasn’t afraid to play the young guys. He gave rotation minutes to Kyle Lowry, Wafer, and Carl Landry . He moved on from Alston in favor of Aaron Brooks in just his second year. I don’t think JVG makes any of those moves.

Man I don’t even like think about, let alone talk about the JVG years. Just missed opportunities all because of stubbornness or unwillingness to conform and try something different. After that first year, we just kept getting older and older.

when did that happen? When did partying interfere with his on court performance or conduct within a professional setting?

*Adding: On that Gerald Green moment, I believe that was Kirk Snyder.
The maybe funnest period of the JVG era, was the brief "Sura run". That's for a reason. That team of vet guards Sura, then midseason trade additions Wesley, Jon Barry, and (Who) Mike James, played more uptempo & more effective seemingly IN SPITE OF Van Gundy.

Those guards being vets was actually a good thing, where the coach can't really "override" their individuality. They got the "VanVleet" pass.

JVG's even showed surprise how that offense was clicking nice, like jokingly in an "I don't know that's them" way. (For all of JVG miserable face & stubborness, was way more humorous than Ime).

Basically, I am suggesting that the current Rocket players do something similar'ish with Ime. To try to get results in SPITE of Ime, force his hand if possible :D

I always forget Mobley and Francis played alongside Olajuwon and Bullard. Great core four. Two champions/legends with two rising stars.
