Who can we realistically get for Sengun?

You gonna ban yourself or commit to the tip jar if you lose clutch? Even better, you should write an article about how Alpi is the goat.

If that’s the best offer you keep him. I wouldn’t trade him unless it’s a top 3 pick this year. It will take a win now team with a chance at a top 3 pick, that makes the only candidates Indy and Atlanta (NOP pick). I’m not sure ATL sees themselves as win now, so it may only be Indy. The Rockets FO probably prefers a win now player rather than a draft pick, so that opens the list up quite a bit. The Bucks would trade Giannis for Sengun, filler and picks in a heart’s beat. If the Rockets do decide to trade Sengun, it’s almost for sure going to be Giannis. Giannis will have to be willing to play center on defense and he will become our defacto PG on offense.

I agree with this except this happens when Amen is not in the action. Amen has been in the action a few times recently with Reed, and even though Amen's man wasn't allowed to roam, there was still a man allowed to roam because there was a non-shooter on the court with Amen off-ball. I don't recall if it was Sengun or Capela in the game.

I will say that, over the past 2 games, I think the Rockets have probably doubled the season minutes with Reed on the court alongside 3 other shooters. Reed has been in the PnR as much as I would like in these situations, but there is an obvious difference in the spacing when he has.

I am pretty sure what @subtomic was getting at was your stance a year or two ago they were building around Jalen. You were wrong about that. I think you are wrong about this too but sorry, I do not bet. TBH, I hope they keep both of them and bring in a coach who can manage to construct an offense around Alpi, Amen, & Reed (and KD for the for the short term).

And thanks for a great forum!

Yeah I would tend to believe that the Rockets would hold him for the hopes of Giannis or another mega star coming available unless there’s a situation like what I mentioned where another team with a young star wants to do a swap of sorts for fit.

Those situations are unlikely though cause teams like Toronto with Scottie Barnes for example at this stage are obsessed with their young star.

The Rockets are an exception here though cause I believe they feel the way Toronto feels about Barnes about Amen. That’s why I think Sengun could be had but yeah I think the price will be too steep for almost all the teams unless they are forced to move a star or have a situation like the Rockets have with multiple young stars that don’t fit together.

Delusion at its best. Giannis is at least not a delusional trade although we'll have to overpay. A bad trade ala Westbrook for CP3, but at least Giannis is actually talented although injury prone and declining.

"other than man-to-man defense"? Technically correct, but in the non-center class, Amen is probably the defensive player of the year. Nobody has his ability to show, gamble, recover and guard up and down. Maybe Kawhi when he's concentrating on defense is in the same class; other than that I can't think of too many other guys who are close.

He's not going to win DPOY as long as Wemby plays 65 games, maybe ever. But, his advantage over Sengun on defense is pretty significant!

Per my response to Reeko, I meant to say "I seem to remember you saying something like this before and you were wrong."

I'm also quite sure you know that I was referring to your statement after the end of the 21-22 season that, paraphrasing, only Jalen Green is (was) the core. Yet Green is gone and Alpi is still here.

I'm sure the response to this is "things changed," and I agree. My point is that declarative statements (by you or anyone) like the one you're making haven't looked good in hindsight - particularly when they involve Sengun.

If you would like to have a wager, I'm could be fine with that. What do you propose the loser's obligations should be?

That's great - I'm not discounting that Amen is an elite defender. But he's not remotely elite at anything else, especially on offense, which is why Alpi is overall, the superior player.

To make a comparison, one could argue that Dyson Daniels and Lou Dort are comparable with Amen as defenders (and the last season's award voters apparently agreed in the case of Daniels), but if for some reason Amen went elsewhere and one of these two came here, nobody would be saying either is the best player on our team.

Ausar would be more likely to win it than Amen this year according to most odds.

I think when it comes to this discussion, we have to ask what happens if we trade a player.

If we trade Sengun, we'd have traded away our all star center and have no one capable of being a starting center on the roster unless we just commit to out starting unit playing small ball....which is kind of the opposite of the rebound centric approach thus far. Could it work? Probably not, but I won't say it would be impossible. Most likely, we'd just need to find an actual center who can hit the 3 ball so that Amen can be the only pathetic shooter on the court to mitigate the damage he does to the team....easier said than done.

If we trade Amen, the team isn't fundamentally any different than they are right now....we have a ton of wings. His defense would be missed, the damage he does to the offense would not be missed.

Now I'm not going to say what WILL happen....there's no telling what idiots who thought Amen Thompson was a PG WILL do. We can only suggest what they SHOULD do.

In short, it makes more sense to move on from Amen than Sengun....but Sengun is worth A LOT more in trade than Amen, so potentially that's a factor.

Amen is a much, much more talented offensive player than either of those guys. He averages almost as many points as both of them combined, on much higher true shooting. It's a disingenuous comparison. Feel like the pendulum has swung too far the other way due to GSW's run of success and people are a little too obsessed with shooting, so that all other offensive abilities fall by the wayside. That's not to say shooting and spacing aren't extremely important, but other offensive skills still matter a lot too.
