I don't think we can afford to trade 3 players for 1 since we are so close to the apron. We won't be able to add any more minimum contracts to make up for them. Cap experts can correct me if I'm wrong.

Monk is slightly under-rated by NBA overall, I like Monk as a player in general. His play making comes and goes, but he's ready-now type of player. Mike Brown did like him, had him start as well as 6th man. Slightly not featured well under Doug Christie. Not sure if he moves the needle here, but depth sure, also the minutes allocation...hmmm.

But jeebus, that offering price is way overpay. It's one thing when the other team/fans are asking.

I really don't think Stone is offering Reed as he seems to be a long term investment: sink or swim. Need time to see this playing out. Unrealistically, if Reed is actually going out, it's SAC that has to pad pick(s)... late first?, not us padding a Tari. If trading a player before his 4th year, have to price in the potential.

Monk and Sac’s unprotected FRP is a pretty fair trade for Reed and Tari. Look at it this way. Both Monk and Tari have to be extended next year. Monk plays a position of need, Tari plays SF of which we have 3 starter level guys. Tari is better than Monk, but injury prone. I call the Tari/Monk part of the trade a wash when taking fit into account. So the trade is Reed for an unprotected pick from one of the worst teams in the league in what is predicted to be a draft for the ages. It all comes down to how Reed is valued by both teams. I personally think SAC is the team that declines the trade.

Folks can have their view on things. Putting my personal feelings aside, my read on Stone (and Ime) is that they want to give Reed more runway to see what the ceiling is. Our team is done with the deep tank, what came out of all the sweat and sadness (from the Silas era) are the Tari, Bari, Amen and Reed of the world. You want to give them a shake, instead being like an org like the Kings, who gave up Haliburton too early.

If you really like Monk, there's maybe other assets you can give to get a Monk or Monk archetype player. To me, goal should be to add shooters and spacers, not just swap 1 for 1.

How did I miss this post?

2nd year players with first real opportunity playing are going to have ups and downs. Sheppard will likely have to figure it out again. The last wall he hit in January was when teams were guarding him with much more pressure. Now it seems they are denying him the ability to even get the ball. I’m guessing he’s going to have a rough stretch when that becomes more common place too, until he adjusts and figures it out again.

with the ceiling he’s shown you absolutely have to invest. We’ve won about 10 games like yesterday this season just because of Reed. Monk hasn’t even done that this season.

On the contrary, seeing this thread again make me remember that JD Davison is getting zero playing time while DFS can't seem to get benched no matter how bad he plays.

It was never about acquiring Monk with Reed. It was about getting a top 3 pick in one of the best drafts in a decade if not longer. I like Reed and think he should start the rest of the year, to see if he can handle the pressure he is going to get when he is game planned for and in the playoffs. As our illustrious GM said, this isn’t our year, we might as well give Reed and Amen a chance to be our backcourt the rest of the year and, who knows, we might even make a little noise if they both respond well. I threw out a lot of trades around the deadline. None were to unload any of our players, they were mostly for fun or to get another backup guard that could shoot. Alvarado would’ve been my choice for the price which turned out to be nothing.

this draft was being underrated, now it’s being overrated.

It’s always high risk high reward, no team will be trading their top 2 pick unless there are major players and picks. It’s also not worth what we’re giving up unless it’s a Flagg Wemby draft etc

This is all hypothetical and unlikely for a number of reasons. But to be clear, I like Reed, but it would not take me one second to decide to trade him for a top 3 pick in this draft. Do you feel the same? I value Reed as an important member of our current rotation and with the possibility he could be a starter long term. I do not value him as a future all-star or a top 5 pg in the league. None of us really know, but the top 3-5 players in this draft have much more potential than Reed in my opinion.

Top 2 maybe and Peterson has an injury history l. Outside that bracket boozer and the others are grossly overrated. Kon and Flagg are much better talents.

Reed absolutely has the potential to be a 20ppg scorer and potential AS.

I see him as a very solid contributor though, kind of like Jamal Murray type to pair with real superstar. This is an offensive, pro shooter (look at all the rule changes to protect them), guard driven league. Folks like Reed can turn the tide of a game all by themselves which is what he has done many times this season.
