How can he be wrong about something that hasn’t happened yet? How do we know that “the Rockets would keep Amen over Sengun” is wrong?
I kinda feel like Sengun has the advantage, mainly because of half court offense. In the half court defenses have to play him close and often double him. For Amen, in the half court he's a net negative, teams don't even bother to defend him, it kills the spacing and it's because his defender is free to roam that it's so easy for defenses to double Durant & Alpi. It may not be his man that directly doubles but when his man can freely move to defend another player, that guys defender is free to rotate as well. As for the shooting between them - one is a center and the other either a guard or a wing. Centers generally live in the paint and aren't really expected to shoot from outside, for guards & wings shooting isn't optional, it's a requirement. Then there's the "who's more likely to improve on shooting" question and I think that's also Alpi ... he's not far from respectable while Amen is below the Mendoza line. There are only 2 qualified players in the entire league below .200 - Dyson Daniels and Amen. His shooting issues aren't limited to 3 point range either, he's shooting 0.367 on shots all shots outside of 3ft. If it's not a dunk, it's a lottery ticket. I also wonder how much of the inefficiency from Alpi is playing alongside Amen, making double teams much easier to execute. I like Amen, mainly because of his ability in transition and as a defender but if I'm forced to decide between the two, it's not a difficult choice, I'm keeping Alpi. That's not saying I wouldn't trade him either - I would if I thought the return was good.
Amen at least does something at an elite level such as on-ball defense, and he is at least top tier when it comes to athleticism/playing in transition. What is elite about Sengun? the only arguments I can somewhat entertain about keeping Sengun over Amen is that it’s easier to find a wing that can shoot than it is to find a C that can shoot, and teams don’t ignore Sengun on defense
Fine, he's said something "like this" before. Replace Jalen Green with Amen, and it's the exact same thing Clutch reported.
My guess on market (theoretical) value: iMO you could get a mid first rounded in this draft, a future pick with top 5 protections, and two role players at the level of like a DFS type of veteran on a 10-15 mil per year contract. Obviously if a star player became available I could see him being the big centerpiece for someone like Giannis… but in a vacuum if a team is trading for him to just simply add him to what they have, I think that’s what I would expect as market value.
The situation this summer I would think about if I was Stone would be a scenario where another young star player on another team just isn’t a great fit there but would fit in nicely with what we are doing here. Like in theory a Scottie Barnes for Sengun swap would maybe be something I’d be looking for but I guess there is no indication that Toronto would believe Sengun is a better fit for them to build around. That’s just an example of what’s in my head as a possible goal for Stone this summer if they decide that Sengun and Amen cannot coexist.
Austin Reaves is probably the best candidate for this, since he's very redundant with Luka. I guess you ask yourself how much more can he do with a little higher usage, and how much of his current production is the "Lakers whistle". I would rather get him for KD than Sengun or Amen though (but I don't know if the Lakers would be interested)
I really can't believe a thread started a few days ago with more than one person talking about trading Sengun for Jalen Green.
I feel like if this were a given we'd have been more involved at the deadline. Personally, I doubt it happens. Giannis doesn't fix our roster construction issues; if anything, he makes them worse, because now we have three non-shooters in the starting lineup (unless we go get a starting-caliber stretch big as well, and those aren't easy to come by). But who knows, maybe the Fertittas and Stone really are that stupid
Why do we assume that the Bucks are going to do that trade or that Giannis even wants to be here? Really doubt that he wants to play here with 38 year old KD and FVV as his supporting cast.
To be clear, I'm not arguing for trading Sengun + all of our picks for Giannis, but I do see it as the likely outcome. I think Ime would choose Giannis over Sengun in a heartbeat, and Tilman would love the ticket sales.
You seem to remember me saying that if the Rockets have to trade one of Amen or Sengun that it won't be Amen...and I was wrong? Lol ok I'm replying to the premise or debate (in this thread and others) that one has to be traded. I'm telling you -- it won't be Amen, if that's the case. I tell you what @subtomic -- let's do a wager. This summer: If the Rockets trade Amen and keep Sengun, you win. If the Rockets trade Sengun and keep Amen, I win. If neither or both are traded, it's a push. Deal? You too, @cml750.
I'd say players as good as Giannis aren't easy to come by. At a bare minimum, Turner would have to come with Giannis. The worry about 3 non-shooters starting is just fear-mongering. I'd be much more concerned with the Bucks being unreasonable and losing Giannis for nothing to the LAL or NYK or the Rockets overpaying than the Rockets starting 3 non-shooters.
