He was drafted as a PG and the Rockets are playing him at PG and he is failing, which is why I keep suggesting a position change.

Amen should be coming off the bench with Reed starting for the future. If you disagree with this then sorry but you're an idiot

Nah; he's still too important defensively. He'll be fine on offense just not as PG

He can come off the bench and be a 6th man

He'll never come off the bench, but he should be playing Sengun's role while Sengun is on the bench. On offense, Sengun isolates outside then works his way inside and collapses the defense, creating open 3s. On defense, he crashes the boards. Amen can do all of that and outrun opposing centers. You'd think he'd be overwhelmed inside on defense, but there are very few low post centers left nowadays. Amen is closer to a point center than a point guard.

This is a recipe for bad defense. Starting Reed, KD, and Sengun at the same time is basically untenable for a defense-first team.

I think it's fine if he comes off the bench--as long as he gets consistent 6th man minutes. Ime has been really bad about that for no apparent reason. Reed should be averaging 26-28 minutes per game, minimum.

He will not lol. Outside of KD the next person in the starting 5 that will not touch the bench is Amen Thompson.

Since he's kind of at a low point, I want to point out that I'm not out on Amen. I still like his upside, but we can no longer ignore the harm the complete and total lack of respect opposing defenses have for his ability to shoot a basketball.

He still has star upside, but he HAS to learn how to shoot a basketball.

Nah, just gotta let Reed run the offense. He's gotta give that up

I see no reason whatsoever to offer EITHER of them an extension.

Make both of them earn their next deal. You can always match when they are an RFA

Problem is, especially for Amen, I can see some idiotic GM giving him the max and leaving us in a situation where we either overpay or lose him for nothing.

That's why I believe trading him is the best option if we can't come to a reasonable agreement.

And by the way, I agree when you say he has star upside, I just don't see his jumper improving to even a below average level. Most likely he stays as a bottom 10% shooter, which makes it almost impossible to find a fit offensively in today's nba. I just don't think he's worth the trouble, especially if we find a good deal for a trade this offseason.

He still has time to become an Iguodala kind of player. But he needs a coach who demands performance from him on offense AND defense. Tonight was a good first step.

Ime rewards defense first mentality too much. Amen has deserved benchings for his approach to offense but Ime wont because hes so good defensively. This helps no one including Amen.
