No. You are just being delusional if you think he will be fire or think he should be. I think if we get bounced in the first round, even with FVV and Adams out, assistant coaching changes will be upcoming. I think next season is when the FO and NBA media start putting that microscope on Ime, like how the Magic's coach has gotten last season and this.
I think Stone is more at risk than Ime. If you get 4 years of top lotto picks, you should be creating roster value and right now we aren't. Whether its ultimately the fault of the players you drafted or the coach or "bad luck", it doesn't really matter - as the GM you should be identifying and eliminating things that put a ceiling on your team and so far Stone has been fairly passive about that which is fine if the team is growing but if it stagnates and all you can say is "we just had some bad luck" - and aren't taking steps to do things differently, I don't think that's acceptable. ....but maybe we are in a place where Stone doesn't have accountability to his boss - not sure. I get that his boss is there because of legal things Stone helped him navigate but Stone has had a pretty good ride so far - its put up or shut up time now.
I think it is TBD, there is ZERO chance that Tillman doesn't see the 4th quarter collapse problem if we struggle in the first round, i could see him get Mark Jacksoned! DD
I think Stone should be more than Ime imo. He did a terrible job this offseason of acquiring end of the bench talent. This team is too shallow and there are too many players who don’t belong in the nba taking up roster spots. Stones lack of depth is probably a big reason why KD and others are likely to suffer injuries or just simply get burnt out. The injuries are predictable. Stone had a disaster of an offseason and it’s showing its face right now.
Yes it won't be Stone firing Udoka even in a first rout. It'd have to come from a reactionary Fertitta
Sometimes. I think Reed is a bit more inconsistent than people realize. Do we get awesome Reed like tonight? Do we get 3/4 quarter awesome Reed where he shots well but forgets how to play defense in the 4th? Do we get poor shooting and poor defense?
I miss Rick Adelman's basketball IQ to this day (and Mike D being a progressive thinker for mismatches/trusting his starters and bench regardless of the opposition going on a 14-2 run... but I'm happy with Ime as this team learns how to play together as well as possible before the playoffs. It could be worse...nightmares of McHale. My damn, I despises that hiring and his inability to coach, motivate it build any culture. The slippery eel was his nickname, right? So was his C-walk up and down the sideline to give a slippery, sweaty "clap clap" like it meant anything.
His defense is also inconsistent. Sometimes he plays better than others. But you don't look at individual games because you can't predict how well a player will play in a particular game. All you can go by is the overall probability. How much better does having a 40% 3pt shooter for your offense? How much worse does a defender like Reed for your defense. Is it worth the tradeoff? Is it easier to hide a bad defender on defense than hide a bad shooter on offense?
Unfortunately, the Rockets are put in a position where they NEED Reed to succeed in order for the team to succeed. If Reed is knocking down 3s and making the right passes, passable on defense and keeping turnovers reasonable, then the Rockets has a shot in the playoffs. Not a great shot due to just how badly all the offseason signings have gone, but at least a shot. If Reed isn't playing well, then they are screwed regardless. So you may as well just ride him out through his ups and downs and hope he comes out the other side a starting caliber PG. Cause Aaron Holiday and PG Amen clearly would not cut it in a big playoff series.
And? So what? You can say that about any of our player, no one is consistently good every night, hell we have 18 4th quarter collapses with KD turning it over and bricking..... Reed makes the team better, I am 100% sure that Stone didn't get another PG to force Ime to play him. DD
Is it easier to hide a bad defender with Adams out for the season? With FVV out? Is it easier to when Sengun is also awful on defense? When DFS has struggled to get back to his previous 3&D form? Durant is 37 and not here to play defense? I think people are just ignoring how often Reed is on the court when we start having our 4th quarter collapses. Against the Jazz, Reed was the main issue in the 4th and was replaced by Holdiay. It’s a disappointing season but Christ…. We are 3rd in the West and have a chance to close out strong with a weaker remaining schedule.
You were also sure about Cam and KPJ….and countless others…. You are the type of fan that latches onto a player and makes them the savior.
The FO didn’t get any help at the deadline because we need to evaluate our young core. It’s not just about Reed… for whatever reason folks keep forgetting we are still developing multiple young players. Sengun is still learning how to play make in the NBA and so is Amen (with an extension coming up soon). Young cores are just historically inconsistent.
Didnt he just trade for KD? The year before he flipped that Nets pick for 2 more picks and 2 swaps. What do you mean exactly by creating roster value? the 4 yrs of roster value turned in Green (KD), Jabari who is ok, Amen 2nd or 3rd best player in the draft and def BPA and Reed Sheppard who has star potential just won a game. I wouldnt say Stone drafted BPA at every spot but those 4 picks were decent. Why should he suddenly be held accountable?
