Amen Thompson is the Rockets' REAL franchise player

Mike Miller, Chris Brickley,The Guard Whisperer, Ben Sullivan and others haven't been able to help this man. I'm still praying something just clicks and he becomes a decent outside shooter. Not even good... just decent. lol.

For an impartial take, Amen dropped to 44th in the Ringer's Top 100 rankings yesterday, down from 35th at the start of the season:

I’m sure you’re thrilled.

 

I'd be thrilled if he became an average shooter or if they traded him. However those are both unlikely, so I will remain disappointed.

 

And yet he's still ahead of hundreds of players who can shoot the three ball

I don't know, which is why I said it would be unlikely. I don't see a market for a wing who can't shoot but will want a giant raise in the summer. Which is to say, I'm sure many teams would offer a bunch of junk for him, but nothing that would move the needle for us. The likely scenario is that he gets a Jalen Green type contract from us, shows no substantive improvement next season, and then becomes the ballast for a deal just like we used Jalen's contract to acquire Durant.

 

33M per for a 23 year-old, forced to play PG top 44 player ?

 

You can always identify an irrationally exuberant Amen-stan when they imply/assert/complain that Amen is just learning to play PG this season when, in fact, he was drafted as a PG and he was our de facto backup PG for the past 2 years.

 

...what's level of concern for this injury? Being a Houston fan makes me paranoid.

I expected more from amen this year but I still believe he is our future. He doesn’t need any more coaching, he needs to figure it out for himself.

And yes, I see Amen's net-rating just behind Donte DiVincenzo, Cam Johnson, Devin Vassell, and Christian Braun. Of course, those guys are all just role players like Amen who happen to be on the court the majority of the time with superstars. If KD missed 2 weeks with a sprain Amen would drop down those rankings like a stone. I never said that Amen "is some loser" but he is certainly not "the Rockets' REAL franchise player".
