Should we? Part of me thinks that the government secretly wants/needs them. Part of me thinks that they would have more technology than Iraq/Afghanistan and it would be a disaster. But a lot of me says we should, and that Trump has already all but stirred the pot to start it. I can see a scenario where the cartels rush into Venezuela in an attempt to control more territory. It already seems they are setting up road blocks there, looking for Americans. Just curious of the opinions of others that are smarter and more knowledgeable than me.
Well all the people who love cocaine , meth, and fentanyl are always against any stopping of supply. @Salvy @Space Ghost @K9Texan
In Venezuela, no. In Mexico, if the government asked for our assistance and they took the necessary legislative steps to make a war on cartels legitimate (and we did too), I'd consider it. Of course, our actual government (and not just the Trump Admin) wouldn't do it the right way, in collaboration, and with respect for human rights, so you may as well chalk me up as a no.
Go watch "Sicario"..."Medellin" is a workaround, and it's not wrong. Not saying it's right either. But there is no real solution for supply and demand in the USA, unless you're really serious about tackling demand.
Its not practical. They are just as in bedded in their society as enemy Iraqis were in theirs Cartels no matter the.money and firepower are criminal organizations. The army in all aspects are designed to fight other militaries
No! The cartels only exist because Americans spend $100 BILLION or more (estimates, of course) on illicit narcotics. Mexico could be vaporized and someone else would fill the void. A war on the cartels would unite them against the Mexican Government, the American Government, and very likely the 1.6 MILLION Americans living in Mexico, myself included. Such a war would DESTROY Mexico and result in the deaths of many thousands Mexicans AND Americans. Countless BILLIONS in property damage would occur and many more billions in Mexican wealth would be lost due to the inevitable collapse of the Mexican economy. It would create a refugee state of MILLIONS of Mexicans in addition to the aforementioned 1.6 million Americans who could be forced to flee to the U.S. It would be a humanitarian disaster of cataclysmic proportions. Trump needs to be hands-off in Mexico. The Mexican President can tell Trump to go eat sh*t.
I have no problems with it as long as we are working with the other country. It needs to be a unified effort. But, as some have noted, as long as there is a demand by Americans, then someone will find a way to meet that demand. So, I view the whole “drug problem” issue a problem we continue to create for ourselves. I mean, if you are buying fentanyl off the street and you OD on it, then I’m blaming YOU. At this point everyone knows using street drugs is playing Russian roulette.
The US military entering Mexico (invited or otherwise) and declaring actual war on the Cartels would be a TERRIBLE idea. First, there are 150 million people in Mexico and 11 million Mexican born people in the USA, and 35 million people that can link their genealogy back to Mexico. The reality is that there would be severe violence on both sides of the border when the US military started killing Mexicans - and in a country like Mexico, there would be plenty of civilians killed. Almost all of the illicit drug trafficking in the USA is from Mexican cartels. There are an estimated 400 cartels and criminal organizations in Mexico. There are over 200,000 active cartel members. The USA doesn't want a war that would definitely bleed into the USA. If the USA is going to do something stupid like that, they should just take part of Mexico.
