Amen Thompson is the Rockets' REAL franchise player

Hard to overstate how good of a job he did on Brunson, who only went off in the 4th quarter because of some combination of us getting away from Amen single covering him and the Knicks finding ways to scheme away from it. (Ime got outcoached again, basically.)

Then Amen is damn near providing a triple-double on top of that.

I honestly did not think it was possible to guard Jalen Brunson as well as Amen did Saturday. I thought Brunson was one of the few guys Amen would not be able to "solve".

had Amen working on his 3 ball, midrange, and ball handling all summer just for the shooting to be worse and the ball handling to be the same

 

I mean... if Brickley is reporting on your shooting it is a pretty good indicator of what to expect?

 

It's funny, they say you can't be a Guard/Wing if you can't shoot, but no one ever talks about the things he brings that hardly any PG has ever brought. Which PG is the kind of defender that's routinely slowing down the Steph Curry's and the Jalen Brunson's of the world and capable of switching onto a PF/C too?

In the conversation for best defensive PG in history, and whether people like it or not, defense is half of all games and possessions, half of any player's report card. Nothing else can explain him crushing Durant and Sengun in net rating.

 

I like the way we used Amen last night. He was the “PG” for two purposes: to (1) push the pace, and (2) slash if the defense gives him a lane. Otherwise, he dumped to Sengun and/or KD and got to the dunker’s spot.

no wonder he's second to Maxey in most minutes played. Ime has no choice if he wants to win he needs to play Amen.

Amen was much better last night due to playing more of a forward role. He still had a ton of turnovers, so it wasn't perfect, but the less he pretends to be a guard, the better

 

Is he okay? I didn’t hear any update on his condition?

Amen needs to be the guy they build around. It will be hard to win a championship if two of your best players cant shoot like Amen & Sengun. Get him off the ****ing ball and surrounded him with shooters.

 

Don't need to get him off ball if he's surrounded by shooters. You can actually run a PnR for him if anyone sags.
