With Sengun's slippage in play, should the Rockets look to run more plays for Jabari, rather than Sengun? He can hit the 3, mid range and he's looking more at taking it to the rim. And in yrs past, he's shown he can hit shots at the end of games. So he has the disposition to handle pressure. In addition, to all of that he plays DEFENSE.
No, until he can reliably handle the ball he is never going to be someone that can be a 2nd option unless his shooting is lights out all the time.
That's hilarious. Let him finish one season in his life having done one above average thing on offense and then we can think about it without laughing. For now he has one goal only: 38% from 3 on the season. Once he's done with that, the only things we need from him are: 1) Add more muscle because he's a 4/5 obviously. 2) Increase his 3PA without going below 38% from 3.
Considering he emerged from a truly ugly extended slump just a few games ago, hoping he's turned a corner might be a wee bit premature.
Nope, but he might be a good #3 option eventually if he keeps improving. Right now he's the 4th/5th guy on a playoff team, but fortunately that's all he's getting paid to be, too.
I'm a big Bari guy, and even I'd be surprised if he became a true second option. What I think he's showing, however, is he can develop into a good #3/#4 option on a championship team similar to guys like Aaron Gordon, Jrue Holiday, Derrick White, etc. Glue guys on large, non-max contracts who are versatile and help cover the weaknesses of the players taking on the larger offensive roles. That role is critical to championship squads - almost as critical as the "stars."
No. He has hot streaks and cold streaks every year. It IS really encouraging that he has stepped up scoring-wise this season. Small steps, but there is still room for his game to grow. I don't think he can ever be a reliable 1st or 2nd option until he develops a sufficient face up game where he can 'get to' a shot. That might still be 2 years away
Let's just call it what it is - Jabari gets the 2026 Jalen Green Memorial Trophy for surprising play for 3-4 weeks towards the end of a season - just enough to keep a "X is our Franchise Player" thread alive. Congrats, Jabari - you deserved it!
Why is it championship role players that can do everything.. John Collins, PJ Washington, and Santi Aldama are a bit faster and more coordinated than Jabari. They have had 30 point games too. John Collins averaged 20/10 when he was 22. None of those guys have been starters on Championship teams.
With all due respect, does this argument really make sense to you? "X player who is kinda like Bari never won championship, so obviously Bari can't be the #3 or #4 guy on a championship team." Do I really need to explain the strained nature of that logic?
Jabari would already be putting up 20/10 in the right situation somewhere else. As is, those numbers are right around the corner here. He is, at minimum, a rock solid #3 scorer for the next decade. Look for him to continue the upward trend in his 3pt % with VOLUME. This, along with great D is his floor. Pretty impressive. I'm thinking we see him put up a 23 and 11 season in the future...while shooting 39-40 from downtown. Let the big man develop.
