Its not Amen or Sengun that are the problem.

This article is still holding its story...

    Latest game.

    • Houston Rockets: Committed 19 turnovers.
    • New York Knicks: Committed 12 turnovers.

The Rockets have the sixth most turnovers in the NBA with 15.4 per game. That is the fourth most in the Western Conference as well. Some of the best teams in the league such as the Celtics, Thunder, and Nuggets are in the top three of the least turnovers per game with just over 12.

Not giving the opponent extra possessions and setting them up with strong opportunities to score in the fast break is what those teams do. Houston has seven games with at least 20 turnovers.

Having a low amount of turnovers is crucial to winning, and that has costed the Rockets throughout the season. Houston can be careless with the basketball and have a knack for some poor and sloppy passing. Sometimes it seems like the Rockets are just moving too fast, and need to properly anticipate what the right pass should be. At times, it feels like players are not ready for it.

The big reason is obvious. There is no true point guard on the Rockets roster that is experienced running an offense. This is new to Amen Thompson, and he’s still growing to become consistent in this role. Superstar forward Kevin Durant then becomes the cause and effect of the turnovers issue.

KD was supposed to just be an elite scorer who would be set up in his spots. Instead, he is the one bringing the ball down the court at times and completely creating his own shot and space from outside the 3-point line.

Teams are aggressively doubling him, and that forces the turnovers. Durant averages 3.2 turnovers per game. While it is not a career high, it affects the Rockets more because of how much they rely on the 16-time All-Star on offense.

Durant has to manufacture looks at times while going around multiple defenders, and that is where the ball can be lost. Even Rockets center Alperen Sengun has been affected by this. Sengun currently averages 3.2 turnovers a game like Durant, but this is a career high for him

Turnovers is our problem - has been all year... from KD, Sengun, Reed.... KD makes lazy passes - and nobody moves to them... Sengun cant hold onto the ball without it getting poked away... and Reed just attempts some stupid passes....

We have the same exact record as last year 34-21, even though we average 1.5 more TO’s per game. Amazingly our ppg is identical to last year at 114. I’ve also shown that we were more negative in the 4th quarter last year than this year. TO’s are one of the problem’s with not being better than last year, but it is a false narrative that the issue is we don’t have FVV. Durant and Sengun are our turnover machines, because of the offense our coach is insistent on. Our 3 pt shooting and fg% is better than last year which everyone claimed was the problem last year.

Our assists last year were 23.3 per game, our assists this year are 24.6. The roster is better than last year. There is one common denominator on this team, Ime. His rotations and lack of bench coaching and defense only philosophy, is why we are not an elite team and faltering. FVV and Adams are not the answer as proven by the stats which are completely objective. We might be better with an elite PG that could be Ime’s coach on the floor, but not with FVV. If Ime would let Amen and Reed initiate the offense the rest of the year, then we might find we already have that elite PG for next year and don’t have to trade for one.

The best thing for this team would be a coaching change (and maybe a GM change), but saving that we are screwed without trading for an elite Pg of which I think they are none available at a cost any of us would want to pay.

    Observationally.

KD gets doubles in the 4th and most of his turnovers happen.
Sengun needs shooter with gravity around him to make his moves work
Reed makes some sloppy passes but has a very good Assist to Turnover ration better than 2 to 1

When we are collapsing Reed isn't on the floor, Sengun has no space and KD is too slow at 37 to beat 2 men off the dribble and bricks or turns it over.

If REED was just in there finishing the damned games we would be so much better off.
