There's room for some nuance in this I think. He's shooting 66% on shots within 5 feet of the basket, which is fine and comparable to a typical NBA starter. For comparison, Steven was shooting 56% on those shots, and Clint is shooting 60%. A really elite player like Giannis is shooting 77% on shots within 5 feet.

Anyway, those shots comprise almost half (7) of all of Sengun's 2P attempts. What's dragging down his percentages are the 4ish shots he's taking between 5-9ft out, right at 40%, and all of those midrange "flamingo" shots, which are sub-40% this season.

He’s definitely been settling for more difficult shots. It’s shows an overall lack of effort which also reflects in his inconsistent rebounding lately. No reason 17 players should be outrebounding him in the last game and you can’t point to fatigue coming off a long break.

Sengun at this point, with no shot to speak of, is basically a flailer/raise his palms to the sky guy trying to drive inside. He really hasn’t developed much if at all in the last 2 years. One summer of videos of him hitting shots against air won’t give me confidence otherwise.

The issue is he is getting the ball 25 feet from the basket and having to do all the work to create a shot. This is because we do not have a healthy point guard on the roster. We have a couple guys who can dribble- Reed Sheppard and Amen Thompson- but neither is a natural point guard who is capable at coordinating the offense.

It's an extraordinary experiment being conducted by Rafael Stone who increasingly appears to be the most r****ded member of the organization. Jose Alvarado was acquired for two bad 2nd round picks- one of those is currently the 60th pick in the 2026 draft. It's absurd that we couldn't beat that offer. Stone has generally done a solid job building this roster but this trade deadline was a huge fail and will result in a wasted season.
