Thompson does more.....trade Sengun. Clippers got a NICE haul for Zubac. If Im the Rockets thats what I would lookfor; a SG, young Center and two #1s
I’ve argued here for while that we should be open to using Sengun or Amen to acquire a “best player on a championship team” that can shoot. So there’s no disagreement there. The point was to be clear about the reasons for it to be Sengun that gets traded: it’d be because they are both really good and super valuable as trade pieces, but we are choosing Amen to keep and thus need to build around the unique constraints Amen creates. Not because Sengun creates unique defensive or spacing constraints as a C. He doesn’t. It becomes more clear when you game out this path - keeping Amen and trading Sengun means you have to get back a primary offensive creator better than Sengun AND a starting level stretch 5 who is a better defender than Sengun. There are maybe 5 of those in the world, and three of them are Jokic, Wemby, and Chet. That’s fine. It’s what I think we should do! But it will be hard.
People who want to see D I'd be fine with getting rid of either, but the fact that Thompson is among the very best at something on the entire planet in terms of being a unique defender who guards out and then teleports into plays seems way harder to replace l. Also, Sengun just looks more annoying when he flails around and then complains to the ref (and then a transition opp opens the other way) - the fancy passes hide how aesthetically unpleasant it is to watch him sometimes. I know it's unfair but it's true. I don't think it's hard to build around Amen as the lone non shooter, because you can just use Jabari if needed at C. It's due to Ime stubboness, but Harden really does solve a lot of problems for Sengun and Thompson - we'll never get to find out though.
Ive been saying Sengun = Sabonis for yrs, while most compared him to Jokic. I would love what the Clippers got for Zubac but I can only hope for something close. I think an up and coming team like Charlotte would be interested. Sengun for Miles Bridges, Brandon Miller, 2026 #1 and a furure #1
"Houston we have a circle jerk here" Years of what? He is only 23 years old. You know what! I block both of you. Fckn toxic clowns.
I get that, but I think you have to almost throw KD out of this when you are talking about potentially trading a young franchise cornerstone. You mentioned Shaedon Sharpe. Post-KD you are going to roll with Sharpe-Amen-Bari-Sheppard and then who at Center? That's play-in at best. Probably lotto. Jalen Green, cmon, this is just ridiculous. That's what I'm getting at with all of this. Who is your Center if you trade Sengun? If we could trade Sengun for Mobley, maybe. But the Cavs aren't doing that anyways, it would cause money issues, and post-KD you still don't have anyone who can create offense unless Sheppard hits his max upside case. If the idea is to go back to that March run from a couple of years ago and Amen is going to effectively be our center, then maybe. Sengun isn't really the challenge to build around. Right now it's Amen.
Şengün discourse on this board is so funny. People who argue that he is a terrible player also believe that he is a highly valuable asset that can get you superstars.
If the Rockets could trade KD they should do it but He has v little value bc of age + burners He stretches defenses out to 30 feet Again I think of the 2 non shooters, id take the contender for "top defender on the planet" (non Wemby division) over the other guy but its fine to prefer the other
You still didn't answer my question. What are you doing at Center if you trade Sengun for Jalen Green? If we could turn Sengun into Mobley or Chet this is different, but pivoting off Sengun for someone like Green or Sharpe and having an Adams or Capela at Center is IMO ludicrous and just makes this issue worse, especially post-KD.
I don't really know what his trade value is and I don't see any trade out there that would help us. Do the "Sengun is the problem" folks think he has high trade value? Why would he have high trade value if he's the problem on our team? Surely other GMs see the same things you see, don't they? What teams do you think would want him? And what would they be willing to give us for him? I think his fit is bad with Amen, as most have pointed out, but I don't think many teams are looking for a player like Sengun.
Last three seasons combined with Jabari playing C, across 2,200 possessions we are a -1.7 net rating team (equivalent to a 36 win team). With anyone else at C across 17,400 possessions we are a +6.0 net rating team (equivalent to a 55 win team). Jabari is not a C. Yes, it is very hard to acquire a starting caliber C who is guarded at the three point line, is better defensively than Sengun, and isn't about to retire. I can count them on one hand. I'm still down to try, but it is really really hard.
hopefully no one thinks he’s a terrible player. That’s crazy. He needs to improve his mid-range shooter, cut down the turnovers (no more iso-dribble at the 3pt line), and continue to improve his defense. But for a 23yr old he’s shown the feet, post skills and passing skills that most big man simply don’t have. There’s every reason to believe he can develop these other skills. I’m disappointed the shooting isn’t further along, and if we don’t see some real improvement there by season 7 I’m gonna lose faith in his ceiling, but he’s a very valuable player with a bright future. Folks need to keep some perspective.
Which brings us back to the age old question. Do you trade Sengun or Thompson? Obviously, you trade Sengun because Thompson does more and does not require the ball.
Reminds me of Detroit; defensive identity, but deep down knows they should have more shooters around Cade-hub.
While I don't think Jabari should be playing center full time, I do think alot of the negative stats early on resulted from his lack of strength.
They have similar decisions over there in DET, JB swapping Ausar in q4 during tight games; offense for defense, or vice versa. Because of the pecking order, JB doesn't seem to have issues doing the subs, whereas here, Ime seems to be reluctant on Amen /spacing, but no issues doing it to anyone else on the squad (except for KD). If the few seconds left and you need a bucket, go with pure offense.
Honestly, this league is ****ed anyhow. It's full of wannabe stars getting paid like they are the face of the league. Guys like Sharpe, Brandon Miller, etc are not even close to being guys that can carry a team and yet that's what we have to look forward to, and it'll keep getting worse.
