Its solid but not generational. Kon Kneuppel for example is just a rookie and a year younger already shooting at 43% with far worse teammates. I agree with Dob a generation technically is 10 yrs. For me "generational" would be if he shot 42% or higher. Thats generational territory cuz thats where the Steph Curries live. Btw right now Tari Eason is looking more "generational" than Reed Sheppard. Reed's 38% is solid but nowhere near star level or even generational, all his rep as a generational scorer came from his college season, but in college Reed was an elite defender and we know his defense in the NBA right? That shows his college class was also generationally bad with a lot of dominant college players looking like scrubs in the NBA.

FWIW, I actually don't think he needs to be generational. There's so much promise in his potential as a PG, those little CP3-esque middies suggest he could be an overall very efficient and versatile scorer. Which I actually do think will offset his size/speed deficiencies on the defensive end. He's flashed some good stuff, I just wish we had a coach who understood why a PG exists.
That’s what qualifies him as th greatest shooter after a 17 or whatever season career. I don’t even think there’s a 5% chance Reed becomes a curry, and I personally don’t think he will be generational, but I think he will be a damn good role player sniper that plays a key role on a championship squad. I don’t see the killer instinct frequently enough to see him as the top guy. I digress though, my point was going to be Sheppard is in his 2nd season it’s difficult to extrapolate anything let alone a near 2 decade HoF career from it
It seems like volume should be considered as well. Would you rather have a 40% shooter on two attempts per game or a 38% shooter on six attempts per game? As the number of attempts rises, the shots typically become more difficult because the defense gets better.
Ya his situation is as bad as anyone like him could ever have for sure, that's another reason i'm so optimistic. For him to have the flashes he's had given his circumstances has been astonishing.
sure. That’s why anyone calling him generational now is stupid. I just want him to be an accurate shooter and make better decisions with the ball. Be a solid nba player first. Hopefully year 3 or 4 he can be this - a dependable, steady, consistent player on both ends.

Curry wasn't Curry until after his ankle surgery, he was known as a great shooter but injury prone and unreliable......now look at him. Curry shot 44-45% his 1st 4 seasons, nobody had ever shot like that except for a couple guys who were just stand still open shooters, he was basically the best shooter ever by year 3 by a good margin.
sheppard is not even an 80% FT shooter i just don’t see the hype around his shot. on the other hand his court vision and hands on D are sneakily superb

what? You don’t do your homework. Curry was already top 10 in 3p made and % his rookie year. He was top 3 in % second year and top 2 in % his 3rd before the second surgery. Wasn’t generational then but really good and signs of greatness
I kind of worry about him breaking fingers and it affecting his shot since he is SO good with his hands and quite reckless with swats at times. Anyone who has played an ounce of pickup knows how easy it is to mess up your hand trying to intercept or block shots. Also this argument is getting weird. I feel like half of you are bent out of shape over 2-3% percentage numbers while the dude has clearly been in a slump. When he gets back to 42-43% the next argument will be "Well he's not shooting 45%!". You can say all you want about him missing "open shots" but almost all the "open shots" are him aggressively stopping after a pick and launching from 3. Who else on the team is doing that? Almost every Tari Eason shot is a spot up. Hell almost ALL of Jabari's 3's are wide open. Almost every time Reed actually has a wide open shot that his teammate has created for him (vey rare occurrence), he drills it more time than not.
