    Did they?

I know the first contract was max dollar amount but not the length. And as I understand, the only reason they gave him that amount was because they had to spend the money and that's probably was why Fred signed with us because no other team would give him that much.

The second contract he got last year was definitely not a max. Did I miss something?

Lots of players sign max deals for not max length -- yes, those are still max contracts. And there were a ton of other FAs they could have given money to, instead.

Yes, he then took a loyalty discount on the second contract to help fit in KD, Steven, and DFS under the first apron hard cap. Same way a lot of max players do once they get into their 30s and they've already gotten a big payday from that same org.

The larger point is, they believe FVV is an excellent basketball player who was the most valuable guy on last season's No. 2 seed. They do not view him in anywhere near the same light as some fans, in terms of being replaceable or having his role easily filled. Some will disagree, and that's fine. But I promise you, it's how they feel.

Disagreed that the second contract was a loyalty discount. I just don't believe that the Rockets or any other team would give him a max deal if they had the cap/apron space.

KD is known to take a paycut, that was never the true problem, he is just who he is, he cannot lead effectively.....

He is a glorified 2nd Option on a favorite, the worst kept secret, tons of talent but such little leadership and he occasionally slips up with burners and weirdo backstabbing.

We were talking about FVV's second contract. The Cat said that it wasn't max because FVV took a loyalty discount.

In my second try saw that, I am not even going there, I am such a downer on FVV, won't stir the pot this time.

I am actually not as down on FVV as many people here. I see his value and I don't disagree that he is one of the most important players on the Rockets last season. But he was important because we didn't have someone else to do what he could do. It doesn't mean that it's very difficult to find someone out there to do that. My biggest beef about the FVV thing isn't that Fred is bad but that the FO relies so much on him by not looking for alternatives to add depth in the backcourt.

It's like saying Adams is a max player because nobody on our roster could get offensive rebounds like him.

I just don't think he is close to being a max player. If Stone and Udoka believe he is, then I can just shake my head.

The FO puts a lotttt of weight on FVV's ring. "Championship experience", as if he were the starting PG on that team. Nevermind that he came off the bench and never had more than 6 assists the final 3 rounds...
