The other side of it is that his extension brings his salary down from 35% of the cap this season to 26% of the cap next year and the year after in the option year. That’s a big difference. That makes him a better trade asset from a pure contract perspective then he was when we traded for him at a 35% max with 1 year left. (Of course, the burner stuff and being one year closer to retirement probably hurt his overalltrade value more).
I'm skeptical that we would net much talent in a KD trade, and we probably would have to take on some bad contracts to match his salary. At this point, he is a sunk cost, and we are probably best off hanging on to him.
I don’t really even think it’s that much of a stretch to say Jalen Green will have more trade value than KD. And it’s definitely not a stretch to say Dillon, Maluach, + JG have more trade value. so sad
It's slim pickings when you think about who might be interested. Miami for Herro and Kel'el Ware or Lakers as part of a sign and trade for Austin Reaves are the two obvious options though. I kinda doubt we trade him, but who knows.
Dillon has more trade value than all 3 of Jalen, Maluach and KD I reckon. Sucks we traded away our real franchise player when we could've sent Jabari with Jalen instead.
it depends on the fallout and what KD wants to do... and i say that bc the org has looked rather amateurish for a few years now... Hard-on had us by the short hairs... and forced his way out... DM had the rep of treating players like assets... i'm sure Ime is known as a hard ass... I would think that the team has to think about how this is viewed by potential future free agents... so u play the 'whatever is best for all concerned' angle... If KD and the guys wanna put it behind them and focus on a chip - cool, then u run that... if there's any ill will... then u go with "Gosh we really hate to trade a future HOFer like KD, but we want to do whats best for KD and the rest of the team... and if that means trading him... then we will have to entertain offers..."
So many of y'all are caught up in this mania about these alleged tweets. C'mon. We're not just going to just "dump" KD. He'll have the pieces around him next year, and we will be a contender.
No one wants him. He's set our rebuild back until at least 2030. Maybe we can convince him to retire after he passes MJ.
