Can't max a "guard" who shoots the ball like an 80's center. There's no reason to max him now. If he wants a lowball extension, fine, if not make him earn it next season by showing he learned to shoot.
I would extend him for something similar to Sengun - 20% of the cap with a 5th year opt out. But I wouldn't give him the max without him developing a jump shot.
I don’t like it but that’s what Evan Mobley is getting paid. Both amen and Mobley are same caliber of player.
Amen on a max deal is a franchise killing type of move you’d have to be the dumbest person on the planet to do such a thing I’m not giving someone a max who teams are comfortable just straight up not guarding…I’m not giving someone a max who 25 points is considered “going off” ridiculous
Every time Amen shoots outside the paint the basketball looks like a frisbee. Not happy this thread aged well but oh well
For the record though, if Amen comes out next season and earns a max deal, it would be amazing. He's just not there yet, not even close really.
So far Alpi's by far the more accomplished and developed player, I get the "potential" thing, but Amen came in late, he shouldn't be getting too high a contract offer at all.
Evan Mobley is overpaid, but he’s also taller so naturally a better rim protector and keeps up with guards just as well as amen. they are probably similar ball handlers too passing amen clears
Wemby may well end up eligible for the rookie supermax, so no. He would need to play in 25 games the rest of the way and make All-NBA or DPOY.
