Why did the US naturalize this dude, was born in Switzerland, defected from Türkiye, has average bball talents.... Cannot even speak English very well......but all of a sudden declared himself as the Golden Standard of Mankind and Human rights issues.
I know why Eileen Gu did what she did - when she made the decision to perform for China, it was a financial one. The CCP has spend over 5 million dollars just on her training and she is a major figure in China. She has made a lot of money in endorsements in China and some in the West. I read that she made something like $25,000,000 last year and it isn't being taxed in China. She figured she could build her "brand" and then have no issues going back to the USA at a later date without anyone caring. There have been other American athletes that have done similar and not had issues. However - I think that her "team" under-estimated that Americans were getting sick of the erosion of a common identity and pride and value that they live in America and not just a large-scale capitalist world. With globalization came a sense that we were all just individuals in the USA with little commonality and after 35 years people are pushing back. I am curious about whether she surrendered her US passport as is required by the CCP. No one has asked her this. I am sure that she will be fine, at worst she can stay in China with tens of millions of dollars and fame - but more likely will go to Europe or back to the USA where she will not be a star but will have lots of money. While she seems obnoxious and quite egotistical in her interviews - no one can deny that she is an impressive young person. She was raised by a single mother - she scored perfect on her SAT and was honors at Stanford.... she can fluently speak multiple languages, she is very good playing musical instruments, she is a model and she is an exceptional athlete. She very much represents the American Dream, regardless of what she ultimately does with it.
Meh - he is an ideal candidate to be naturalized as a US citizen. He has faced persecution in Turkey, he has a solid education and financial means, he has never been in trouble and he is glad to be an American. I don't fully agree with his opinions, but that is part of America too -- people can have civil disagreements.
Lol at Kanter caring about this stuff when the US is also killing its own citizens. Is China a good country? no, but neither is the USA.
Sure, why not, but it just coincided with his NBA career ending that he turned to being an activist.....what a nice coincidence. I know you don't like the Party, we had that discussion way back there and the Gu situation has been beaten to death, we all know she did most of it because of commercials and money. Her mother was also Chinese, so the naturalization should have been no problem. They did the dual citizenship and broke the law .....made it an exception. As to why she chose to speak out against Trump, even Americans speak out against him..........
I do agree more with the past Canadian system to fast track immigration of special talents....like Indian engineers.....
They are ultra good to their athletes, revered like Demi gods. All that matters to them. You naturalized a buffoon, congrats.
She is a smart business woman, who made her own choice - good for her, I doubt she gives two ***** for what anyone else thinks. Maybe there is a secret tweet from Kevin DoucheRant about it. DD
