Frankly, it's difficult to draw a linear progression of what's happened behind-the-scenes on this unless there is some organizational intervention on external communication from KD (Bari, Alpi etc still posting). And - if that's true - what does it say that you're asking a 37 yr old, 20 yr vet, to not post anything but a bunch of 22 yr olds can? That logic also barely holds together (if at all).

So that's just a needlessly long way to say I really don't know and I feel like we're all flying blind. I also feel like the longer that lasts for something so nefarious and potentially cancerous for a young team, the more I think there's something.

I was really ready to just about let this go last night. Alpi's interview and Cod's post reeled me back in. And all of a sudden it's pretty bearish in my headspace.

No, not that I know of but you can be assured that KD took notice and is either trying to work it out behind the scenes......

The context in which he used it is also classic NBA twitter speak.

 

I think this is what everyone is not understanding. If this is fake, 100% of PR companies would advise him to address this privately with his teammates and not fan the online flames because someone has clearly gone to a lot of effort to create this.

If it's fake, this is not a minor scam. Someone did a lot of research on his previous burner account, used AI to try to nail his writing tone, came up with things that they believe KD would say, ensured that these things are specifically designed to implode a team, etc. In a rush, this would still take hours to achieve. I wouldn't say it's a professional job but it is certainly not some teenager.

If this Durant were signed to my brother's PR agency for instance, here's what would be happening:

1) Always use an attack as an opportunity. When this gets debunked, the new M.O. about KD is that the burner thing is ancient history and people are trying to lie on his name. So for the time being, let as many people as possible commit to the lie online so that the embarrassment is loud and dramatic when the truth comes out. When the time comes to embarrass them, ensure maximum drama. Prepare a massive social media campaign boosting the people who did not believe the lie. Let's call it the "I told you so" campaign. Sign a deal with ESPN to run a couple of segments (Malika + Stephen A) about how the KD hate has always been so extreme. Do the same with a couple of podcasts in exchange for some sponsorship money, maybe have them take the more general angle of fan-player hatred in the NBA going too far.

2) Who the f*ck did this? This is someone who spent more than a few hours on this. Someone with genuine interest in destroying the rockets locker room and/or KD's legacy. We would be hiring the best private investigators because there's a 1 to 5% chance it could be someone worth taking down. What if this can be tied back to Klutch Sports who KD happened to diss just days before this happened? If we could get KD in the room without his agent (Kleiman), we would of course ask him if he by chance communicated to anyone that he's thinking of reneging on the IDF/Drone investment. Could be a threat from someone on that side. Are there any pro-Palestine people who threatened him because of his investments? That could be a lead too.

3) Take care of business in the locker room. Speak to your teammates, coach and GM and show them whatever they want to see to ensure they have no doubt it's not you. Let them look you straight in the eyes. Give them your phone. Whatever it takes. But you need them to NOT confirm or deny this with the media right now. Might even help for them to pretend to be mad at KD. Let it burn for now. Make sure they know you and your team are on it. Apologize for the disturbance.

4) Lay low and keep playing excellent basketball. Psychologically, people respect productive greatness.

You trying to run PR for KD while you have been consistently wrong historically about most things about this team is actually not helping.

 

Hell yeah dawg, tell em. KD's Suns last year were 16 - not 1, not 2, not 15, S I X T E E N, games worse than the Rockets. This team + Dillon/JG beat the brakes off KD's Suns h2h and in the standings against the rest of the league.
