The US dollar is strong, if and only if by strong you mean weak.

Before the 219–211 vote that would roll back Trump’s tariffs on Canada by ending the emergency declaration, Speaker Mike Johnson attempted to redefine what counts as a “day” in order to prevent that vote from happening.

Republican Congressman Massie said: "The law requires Congress to hold a vote on presidential emergencies within 15 days of their declaration. Today, the Speaker is trying to pass a resolution that literally claims a day is not a day, just to avoid voting on the emergencies that justify the tariffs."

Over 200 congressmen voted for the idea that "a day is not a day." A moment for the history books.

    Provision 19 states:
"It provides that each day during the period from February 10, 2026, through July 31, 2026, shall not constitute a calendar day for the purposes of Section 202 of the National Emergencies Act (50 U.S.C. 1622), with respect to a joint resolution terminating a national emergency declared by the President on February 1, 2025, April 2, 2025, July 30, 2025, or August 6, 2025."

House GOP join Democrats to slap back Trump's tariffs on Canada | AP News

WASHINGTON (AP) — The House voted Wednesday to slap back President Donald Trump’s tariffs on Canada, a rare if largely symbolic rebuke of the White House agenda as Republicans joined Democrats over the objections of GOP leadership.

The tally, 219-211, was among the first times the House, controlled by Republicans, has confronted the president over a signature policy, and drew instant recrimination from Trump himself. The resolution seeks to end the national emergency Trump declared to impose the tariffs, though actually undoing the policy would require support from the president, which is highly unlikely. It next goes to the Senate.

Six House Republicans voted for the resolution, and one Democrat voted against it.

    Terminating Trump’s emergency
The resolution put forward by Meeks would terminate the national emergency that Trump declared a year ago as one of his executive orders.

The administration claimed illicit drug flow from Canada constitutes an unusual and extraordinary threat that allows the president to slap tariffs on imported goods outside the terms of the U.S.-Mexico-Canada trade agreement.

not surprisingly, the weakend Trump has issued an ominous warning to Republicans
who vote against his tariffs, promising they will “seriously suffer the consequences
come Election time” for their disloyalty.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Billionaire Trump donor---an advocate of tariffs / a critic of offshoring--- is moving his Ohio manufacturing plant to China

Hedge fund billionaire John Paulson — a major Trump donor and advocate of tariffs — is shuttering his Ohio brass instrument plant and offshoring work to China, according to a new report.

Paulson’s company Conn Selmer, the nation's top maker of orchestral and brass instruments, notified employees it will shift most of its East Lake plant operations to Asia by July, triggering about 150 layoffs, The Guardian reported.

During Trump’s first presidential campaign, Paulson served as an economic advisor, and he raised $50 million for the president at a 2024 fundraiser in Florida.

    in Sep 2024,

Paulson said that Trump's tariffs are well-founded, as they support manufacturing in the US

    he did a 180 in Feb 2026,

meanwhile, according to this professor of Economics, at the London School of Economics, Trump's tariffs and ban on
    NVDA chip shipments to China
have been a gift to the PRC. Accelerated EV exports to the EU and domestic chip development / mfg
have / will continue to lead to more jobs

On the other end of the economic spectrum ,

Trump 1.0's ill-conceived Tariffs prompted China to accelerate the implementation of its one-belt-one-road strategy,
some 8 months after Trump 2.0's self-declared liberation day---initiating another trade war---
China's trade surplus tops record $1 trillion..

its one-belt-one-road initiatives are paying off---continuing its impressive growth as of Nov 2025---despite 28% fall in shipments to US,...Chinese EV sales have exploded in Europe, more than doubling their market share there.

    indeed, [IMG]

Meanwhile the orange cuckoo is posting on and on about his White House Ballroom today. He's so out of touch with what Americans want and need. It's all about him, and surrounding himself in luxury. Always was, and always will be.

WASHINGTON — Delivering a major blow to President Donald Trump, the Supreme Court on Friday ruled that he exceeded his authority when imposing sweeping tariffs using a law reserved for a national emergency.

Chief Justice John Roberts wrote the 6-3 opinion. Justices Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito and Brett Kavanaugh dissented.

We now can name 3 SC Justices who have a loose grasp of the US Constitution.
