Just to prevent the misuse of pardon powers, I pray you're right. The Donald is shameless at the best of times, and at the end of his life and the end of his political run, I would expect him to do something like issue blanket pardons to every registered Republican in the country. JD Vance, rightly ot wrongly, undoubtedly imagines a political/public future for himself. That alone would act as a HUGE restraint on how much he would use the pardon power for fear of blowback. The Donald with nothing to lose is a really scary idea. As Don said in another context, the only restraint on him would be his own (complete lack of) morality. Sweeping all the crimes comitted by Don's toadies under the rug is a recipe for future unrest/strife and would embolden people on either side who think Trump was really onto something with how he ran things without respect to fairness, tradition, or law.
My guess is that many pardons for administration officials are already written and signed with an autopen. Just waiting for a good date to be put on them.
I'm not sure what kind of president JD would be if Donald crokes because JD tends to re-make himself into whatever is most convenient for his political expediency on a dime. I mean the guy has changed his name what... three times already?? But the one thing I do know is that whatever he is... he will be a condescending gaslighting prick.... but I would take my chances with him as president over Trump and Stephen Miller (who I think is actually running the country right now as the voice in his ear daily polluting what's left of the mush pile of a mind he has).
He'll become J.D. Trump, the newly discovered b*stard child of Trump and one of the dead Epstein girls.
Maybe, maybe no. That he was elected president in the first place is still difficult for me to believe. He had no previous experience in government or the military, with several failed business ventures and an absurd television show that he was fired from in his resume, yet he “won” the presidency in an incredibly close election, despite Ms. Clinton beating him in the popular vote by 2,000,000-plus. It wouldn’t surprise me if he clung to the Oval Office even if reduced to drooling as he dreams of where else he can place his name. Another building honoring a dead president who was popular while in office, perhaps?
