I feel bad for Paredes. He was the team MVP for the majority of last season. Led the in team in WAR. All-Star. Great attitude and team player. He set the tone being patient at the plate and making opposing pitchers work and the rest of the lineup followed his lead. His glove was surprisingly good too. Once he went down, the team offense just completely collapsed. Dana trades for former franchise legend Correa who was supposed to help the team stay afloat in the AL West and make the playoffs..instead the offense continues to sputter and then the team collapses the last few weeks. Paredes opts of season ending surgery and he works tirelessly to come back and try to help the team but it's too late. I love Correa but he's not worth that 32M AAV contract...that's 4 times more than we're paying Paredes. And now Paredes is the odd man out and on the chopping block despite being the significantly better player than Correa is now but no Astros fan is going push to trade Correa over him with his history with the team. And it's not like that's possible anyway with that huge contract and his age and injury history. It's a real tough situation for Paredes.

I kinda wonder if there’s not some unknown reason why Paredes is about to be traded for the 4th time. The current situation can easily be attributed to bad luck (for Paredes). Correa was like the only player in the league that Houston would have added to displace Paredes like that. Nobody could have foreseen that he’d come available.

Paredes is our best 3rd base option. That’s where he should play.

“making opposing pitchers work and the rest of the lineup followed his lead.”

I must have missed the part last year where the rest of the lineup followed his lead at making opposing pitchers work.

“I love Correa but he's not worth that 32M AAV contract”

For the thousandth time, we aren’t paying him $32M so why do y’all keep bringing up the contract the Twins gave him?

Also for the thousandth time, Correa was on a 4+ WAR pace with us. At the cost we are actually paying, it’s actually a positive. Jorge Polanco just got $20M a year.

If we trade him, it will hopefully be for a similarly valued OFer like Abreu. I love Paredes as well but I’d rather have Correa and Abreu than Paredes and whatever ~$14M gets you in free agency. That’s a lotto ticket or an old vet.

The Rays regularly trade their players so really not much to see there. We apparently had interest in Paredes before he was traded to the Cubs so it’s not surprising he was included in the Tucker deal.

    I don’t think there’s an unknown reason.

Correa is better defensively so that makes zero sense.

But not offensively. Paredes was great defensively last year.

Not really, no. He was ok. Correa was and is much better defensively. Paredes is one of our best hitters but he isn’t a positive fielder. Not a lot of range, not a lot of arm.

He was great at 3rd last year. He surprised everyone. Paredes is not at all a liability defensively, and he can hit 30-35 home runs playing everyday. He is perfect for Daikin park.

I say let em battle it out in Spring Training.

    1. Pena SS
    2. Paredes DH
    3. Yordan LF
    4. Correa 3B
    5. Altuve 2B
    6. Walker 1B
    7. Diaz C
    8. Cam RF
    9. Meyers CF

Am I forgetting someone? This is our best lineup and it’s a very average lineup. Any injuries and it’s below average. Hopefully, there are some surprises and/or trend reversal.

I think you gotta have Yordan behind Paredes

I did forget about Joey Lopes.

I guess he could beat out Cam or Cole for a starting spot

Most of you will end up killing yourselves when Chas hits 34 bombs for the Cubs this year.

None of the defensive metrics support his positive impact. I watched a lot of games and wasn’t impressed. He didn’t make big mistakes, he fielded what he got to fine. But the arm and range were mid. It was a long way from Caminiti or Bregman in their primes.

Again, just talking about defense. He’s absolutely a key bat in our lineup along with Pena and Yordan.

I disagree. I thought he played a good 3B last year. I do not think it is a liability in the least. He’s 26? He can also get better.

I do not think we have entered Isaac’s offensive prime just yet.

At this point, I think the offensive drop off is steeper than the defensive drop off at 3b between those two. This lineup needs a stud.

now, Paredes at DH would probably be the optimal choice.

I think Isaac’s defensive liabilities would be exposed at 2b much more than they would be at 3b. I think he’s a solid defensive 3rd baseman.

All this being said, I would love for Correa to have a big year with the bat. That would be huge for the team.

I am with you having Paredes at DH. I know they don’t want Yordan in the field but I don’t think any of his injuries were related to playing defense. Those folks who talk about rotating Paredes at different spots when guys sit make sense, too.

Frankly this lineup is thin and the bench is weak. We need both Correa and Paredes in the lineup as much as they can reasonably handle. It’s just that, defensively, Correa brings more value at 3B than Paredes does.

Lots of guys who have the potential to produce this season in the lineup but few that I think we can absolutely count on. Paredes is one of those few.

Yeah unless a trade is made to swap Paredes for an equally capable hitting OFer, I’m throwing Yordan’s ass in LF for all the home games.

If everyone stays healthy, IMO the above is a pretty good lineup. Definitely better than average.
