A bench catcher springs to mind.

I'm resigned to Parades eventually getting traded even though I don't want it to happen. Just don't get gypped Dana.

I hope this isn't true, I assumed vazquez was a minimum player.

Yeah that would not be ideal. Vasquez is a good signing at $4M or less but at $6M it starts to skew, especially for a team where money is tight.

Vasquez is not the answer. Surely there are versatile backup catchers available that can hit over .200

Caratini, while getting a starting role, is only making 7m

Especially when you consider Salazar at 800k vs Vasquez at 5m

Who's better between Vasquez and Heim? Offense looks like Heim but no idea who's better when it comes to game calling/catching. Didn't Heim recently sign a 1 year $1.5 deal? I can't see Vasquez making that much more than Heim.

If Vasquez was valued at over $2-3M he would have has a deal weeks ago.

Pitchers and catchers have already reported and the chemistry/familiarity/relationship between catcher and pitchers is crucial.

I much prefer Christian to Salazar or any of the current FA catchers out there but he must be cheaper than $5-6M !!

Vasquez is the better defender and game caller. But still I agree, Vasquez really shouldn’t command more than $4M/1yr.

Christian Vasquez is not a competent MLB hitter anymore, and hasn't been for 3 seasons.

Isn't game management supposed to be a strength of Salazar, we know he doesn't hit. Vasquez brings absolutely nothing with the bat, so why is Salazar even taking up space on our roster if they trust him that little.

I don't like the money being bandied about, but Vazquez would be a great backup catcher and mentor for Diaz and the pitchers. Not all of his contributions come on the field.

Astros absolutely need a catcher that is on the same page as the pitching coaches.

That was one of the reason that Maldy was always so valuable For the Astros. He studied opposing batters meticulously, and was the eyes and ears for coaches to evaluate the pitchers in real game time.

It seems the Astros want that type of input for their catchers, super intelligent and defensive capable; any offense is sheer gravy.

If the Astros see Vasquez in that light (such like Maldy), well they should hitch their wagon to such a player. Obviously the Astros pitching staff has an undisputed track record getting the best out of their pitchers, and if their secret is the catcher, then that’s their formula. I’d rather the pitcher be great and the catcher great at calling the game and below average hitter, than the pitcher be below average and the catcher be bad at calling games and an all-star hitter.

6M is outrageous for him. It’s not my money, but Crane is obviously cost conscious unless it’s for a real difference maker. It makes much more sense to keep what little powder we have dry until the deadline, unless somebody like Abreu shakes loose from Boston.

I find it hilarious that Dana Brown's 3 best moves to date have been reacquiring former Astros. Loser GM.
