Forget talking about Reed specifically he plays the worst 3 pt shooters in the league over the best 3pt shooter on his team down 3 with 2 seconds to go…not play him to shoot…not even as a decoy
I actually do think this is an interesting subject if you look at it from one specific angle - if you are a coach who is trying to be tough and instill certain values in young players, would you bench that player even if you know your chance of winning the game goes down? Would you ever bench a player as punishment if you know that its reducing your winning chance? And if so, do you consider that "losing on purpose"? Like if I'm a coach, and I tell all my players they can never gamble on passing lanes, and if they do, they're ass is getting benched. Then my best player gambles, misses it, and allows an open dunk, should I bench him? And if I did bench my best player for doing that, am I "holding him accountable" or am I "losing on purpose"? Anyway I don't know if that's what you were getting at here but I do think the hypothetical I gave above is applicable to the way he handles Reed Sheppard.
Here's the thing guv Ime might seem a proper geezer but he got himself into a bit of a **** up The details ain't important, it probably involves a dame as per usual. Unfortunately on the other end are the meanest band of tossers in town, worse than the Yardiest yardies there ever was, and even if Ime goes through the slips ain't nothing but hot fuzz and johnny law on the other side. So, you may ask, how does a chap make it through BOTH the hell AND the high water? Perhaps a match or two, strategically not entirely contested on the level, and knowledge of such passed through to the appropriate punters at the right time, and boom, everything is right as rain and Ime has a new lease on life, so to speak and pete tong is singing the blues once again.
A REAL head scratcher. I get it if either of Alpy or Amen are in the game in order to in-bound the ball. They are probably our best passers, have height, etc. But why isn't Reed running around out there trying to get open? Surely the play has him flashing to 40' and ready to take a long heave? Completely lost on the logic of having Alpy stand on the court at all, and then the ball dribbles off his leg... yay.

I think its just called being a bad coach. This isnt Hoosiers or Friday Night lights. Ime isnt Paul Bear Bryant. Its pro sports. Use all the tools you have in the most effective way possible to win games.
Listen mate - the Udokers has got his thoroughbreds all cream crackered. Since he done lost the training room, it's hammer & tongs from now till April- and if a match or 2 should seem like the players are on holiday and a cheeky punter takes home a few extra quid, well then thems the breaks innit
Interesting angle. I might potentially bench my young guy to motivate him. My best player might as well sit next to me if he's not following my lead consistently. As a team we've decided not to gamble on passing lanes. You don't get to decide on what we do as a team. I'm willing to gamble on certain games by taking them out if it's going to help us get better in the long term. By doing this, you're trying to trigger the response you're looking to get from them. I wouldn't call it punishment though. If you're into punishing people, you should grow up and get another job that doesn't involve people management. I've taken similar gambles and losses in my career to win even more at the end. You employ this tactic on your terms and be very selective about it. I briefly wondered if that was Ime's game by not putting Reed out there on the last play? It happened right after he said "not right now if ever" I don't think that's the case though. Ime constantly looks so angry - not quite sure if you can have any logic in you with that sort of emotions filling you up. End of the Ted Talk. Thanks for joining.
i dont think he intentionally loses any games... but i think he's willing to sacrifice a few to see how certain groupings play together in clutch situations... Throughout the season, I get the impression that Ime is still evaluating different line-ups... but maybe he's just an idiot... idk...
So he was experimenting by putting 3 non-shooters in with 1.5 seconds left needing a 3 pointer to tie. I think your last statement is the most accurate.
And then when the team loses and his direct actions lead to the loss he gets to throw the players under the bus and never accepts responsibility
I said it before the season starts. He is a straight up Narcissist and will never falter from his view of the world around him. Some Narcissists can be successful if they are truly one of the best at what they do. Ime is not. He can’t take the blame, because it is in direct conflict with his affliction. Stubborness is one thing, delusion is another. It is why the bring in an assistant stuff will never work.
We've had such a cavalcade of narcissistic tendencies... its hard to differentiate. Harden is def a full-blown narcissist... "I am a system!" I always considered DM to be his enabler... but his constant efforts to circumvent the system and his obliviousness to personal dynamics (Melo/Bzdelik) leads me to think he may have autistic leanings... Now MDA and Ime... idk... both instilled their gameplan and made few adjustments... MDA's hubris went to smallball... Ime went to double big... MDA wanted 50+ 3s (even though he didnt have the shooters) and didnt care about d...Ime is willing to forgo having shooters and is all about defense... both were willing to rely on a heliocentric iso-heavy gameplan and inordinately lean on their best player... When MDA was asked about overrunning guys and his short rotations - while leaving them gassed in the playoffs... He said "Those people dont know what they're talking about..." We can see Ime follows the same agenda... Personally, I'm amazed at how people revere MDA as some offensive guru and have total disdain for Ime... They seem to me to be the 2 sides of the same coin,,, Are u trying to get more points per possession or the points from more possessions...? I'm the flip, I thought MDA was a one trick pony and appreciate the strong work ethic and accountability that ime brings.. I think they both have inordinate focuses - and its just a matter of how they align w your views... Personally i appreciate teams that work hard on both ends and do the dirty work and dont like relying on the fickleness of the 3ball... I certainly got my issues with Ime, but no more so than MDA... lol
I agree. Nothing wrong with balance. The most successful leaders are those that surround themselves with brilliance and understand that a collective brain trust will almost always out perform a heliocentric approach. It doesn’t matter the endeavor. The atom bomb was developed by a team. Getting to the moon was a team effort. The Boston Celtics won their championship with multiple initiators and contributors. Narcissists can make it to the top tier of their profession (mulitiple presidents and dictators are a good example), but they all fail in the end.
Even if what you said is true, it still doesn't explain why he didn't play Holiday, a very good 3pt shooter, over one of the non shooters on the floor, when we were down 3 with 2 second left.
