Are the Rockets better when Reed starts?

Every time we get a halfway decent white player we get this with DD.
It's just.... ( sigh )

 

Man at this point I'll just be happy if Reed can eventually give us 30mpg, 16-18 points, 5-6 assists, and 40% three point shooting with playable defense. He's been so up and down so far on both ends of the court that it's hard for me to say right now whether he will even be a starting caliber guard in his prime.

There's a world where he exceeds that and becomes a #2 option I think, ala Jamal Murray. That would be best case scenario. I can't see him being a #1.

 

We may have to petition Clutch to ban DD just to protect Reed's future.

 

Not really, he's a 2 time all star at 23. My opinion of him is in line with what most think and what the numbers show.

His current per 36 numbers are 18 points, 4.3 assists, and 38% from 3 with playable defense....

 

I think Sabonis is an excellent passer too, while Sengun is a better ballhandler. Their skills are more similar than they are different, but Sengun being able to play defense is far more important than rebounding, finishing, or any other skill Sabonis might have the edge in. I have a lot of respect for Sabonis, but he provides nothing on the defensive end. Sengun might not be all-defensive team yet, but I'm not worried if he's caught on a switch and he provides far more protection at the rim. In fact, he's so good on the perimeter that teams don't bother hunting him.

A straight up numbers or per minute comparison doesn't adequately display the difference in defense. Sabonis hasn't been on a top 10 defensive team in eight seasons, and he needed Myles Turner to defend the middle for the two times it happened in his career. With Sabonis in the middle Sacramento has been a bottom tier defense every season. Sengun has been on a top 10 defense three years in a row now, 4th last season and 5th this season, and there is no DPOY candidate behind him to erase mistakes. The Rockets thought they needed to add Brook Lopez to shore up the defense, but that fell through and Adams has only been a part time contributor. It's been Sengun manning the middle.

I said Reed was having an excellent game, in the game thread. Everything just went to sh*t after that. Basketball iq is fine, defensive effort is spotty, the single thing that irks me the most is that him and Amen fold under pressure bringing the ball up the court. Thats why Alpi and Kd are bringing the ball up the court. We still haven't got a pg yet. Waive Aaron Holiday if you have to. Pick up a pg off the buyout and sign JD davison for the remainder of the season. Then you will have 2 pgs, who look comfortable handling the ball. No more Alpi and Kd bringing the ball up the court and their horrid turnovers.
