If Thomspson and Sengun can't learn to shoot mid 30's from BTA you are going have to trade one, because in today's NBA you can't put two non-shooters on the court at the same time. The athletes are just too good to cover the limited space they have to defend under this scenario.

0-27 happens when ur shooting the 3 ball.... had we turned a few of those misses into 2pt buckets, we'd have won a championship...

3 is more than 2... but 2 is more than 0... and based on how our guys have been shooting 3s in the last month or 2... i don't think anyone can make an ironclad declaration about either or...

Rockets also 22nd in turnovers. They were 7th & 11th previous 2 years.

I don't think team turnovers is always the worst thing ever. Peak Golden State was always in bottom quarter in turnovers. Its the TYPE of turnovers.

Its gotten noticably worse. Rockets seem to do more the mid-court turnovers leading right into opponent transition buckets

I have been saying this forever, that shooting is the number 1 most important thing you can have in basketball.

Ime never could shoot, so he doesn't value it as much as he should. He was carried by others.

We need shooting....SHOOTING makes up for all kinds of ills.

last night we shot 35% from 3.... (8 for 23)
    and 30/60 from 2.... so 50% from 2...

obviously 35% from 3 is 1.05 per possession... 24 points off of 23 attempts
and 50% from 2 is 1.0 per possession... 60 points off of 60 attempts

so one may assume that 3s are slightly better...

    but wait...

how many free throws did we get off of these attempts?

if we made 3 +1 situations off of 2s... that would put 2s at 1.05 per possession - identical to what shooting 35% from 3 garnered...

    its that close...

sorry... but the whole 3 is more than 2 argument really pisses me off as i find it to be a shortcut to thinking.... 33% from 3 = 50% from 2... so it all depends where your proficiencies lie...

Of course, the rockets had a brain dead philisphy of no midrange before—and we saw the results. I was the most vocal of the folks arguing you need to at least have it as a fall back.

the issue is the rockets currently are using it as their main option which is doomed to fail. They take more long 2s than anybody and excel at being inefficient

you need to have variance to keep the defense guessing too. So midrange is crucial but should be like 10% of shots

again... it depends... folks always want to make declarations of what u have to do to win - but it depends on your personnel...
MDA wanted to shoot uber 3s... great if u got Curry and Klay - we didnt... We had guys that went 0-27... lol!
Id let KD shoot whatever he wants... dude's stroke is pure from anywhere on the floor...
and yeah, i agree u gotta mix it up... but i dont need Amen or Sengun shooting 3s to 'keep the defense honest' - bc they aint even covering them on those shots... lol

You have to have a good mixture. Mike Dantoni's offense was so flawed during the playoffs. Golden State would cruise when people tried to run them off the 3 point line with Durant. One of the games in that playoff series. It was a chess match, with both teams running each other off the 3 point line, but then Golden State went on this run with nothing but midrange. That opened up their 3 point shots again. There are 3 levels to an offensive half court. If you are only maximizing 2, you are easy to guard. Unfortunately right now the Rockets only have midrange, because the paint has been taken away and they're bad at shooting the 3. Coaching matters!
