Anyone else think Egor Demin should be a Rocket?

Give them their pick rights back and some other crap. Getr dunn stoner!

The future after Durant moves on would be.

    PG - Reed Sheppard (6-2)
    SG - Egor Demin (6-8)
    SF - Amen Thompson (6-7)
PF - Jabari Smith Jr. (6-11)
    ..C - Alperen Sengun (6-11)

I really liked Demin and Coward in the draft. But neither would solve our shooting problems.

Demin is shooting right at 40% from 3. I think he would help.

Yeah, I really liked Demin if we'd kept our pick.

I also like Demin. Can’t wait for them to convey their 2026 pick our way.

He was horrible in college - nobody would've expected him to be a good 3 pt shooter in the NBA other than "I just think he will" for whatever reason. He wasn't even a good FT shooter in college. It's weird, but in college, he was a good 2 pt shooter, but horrible 3 pt shooter. In the NBA, his 2 pt shooting is terrible and his 3 pt shooting is good - hell, his 2 pt and 3 pt percentages in the NBA are about the same right now. From looking at his stats, about 70% of his shots are 3 pointers.

    Sell high.

Goes back to what Durant said about small guards.

“I don’t know if the 6’2 and under guard is at a premium no more as a starter. Maybe as a backup. You can’t get picked on defense. We’re playing the pick-on game. They will literally, if you can’t guard, they will bring you up every play. If you’re not a bulldog like Davion Mitchell, Jrue Holiday on the defensive side or offensively a flat out savant like Kyrie, I just can’t see it.” — Rockets Legend™ Kevin Durant

“What does Jalen Brunson have to do with Reed Sheppard?!”

As the author states, no one wants Trae. No one wants LaMelo. No one wants Ja. Crime wasn’t trading Luka. Crime was not shopping him to the entire league. Crime was trading him for a perpetually injured 31-year old big man who’s out if you sneeze on him.

    https://www.cbssports.com/nba/news/knicks-jalen-brunson-defense-problem-karl-anthony-towns-trade/

Yes, we're all aware of Brunson's unimpeachable offensive value. He's about as good as it gets. But in today's NBA, the net value of even the most elite offensive points guards is being called into major question if the tradeoff is defensive ineptitude.

Look at Trae Young. He's one of the best offensive players on earth, and he just got salary dumped to the Wizards. The Bucks are paying Damian Lillard $113 million over the next five seasons to play for someone else. Nobody wants Ja Morant. The Mavericks traded Luka Dončić for crying out loud.

The Knicks are not going to trade Brunson, and this is not a suggestion that they should even consider that, but there is a reason Stein also reported that New York has "explored pathways" to acquire Jrue Holiday. It would be a perfect match. Holiday isn't just the prototype for the get-over-the-hump player; he's the actual player who has gotten two teams, the Bucks and Celtics, over the championship hump.

The Knicks have to go up a level if they want to contend, and they have to cover for Brunson defensively. Again, Towns feels like he takes more heat for his defense, at least nationally, but the data says the Knicks are actually significantly more handicapped by Brunson. Just look at the numbers, per Databallr.

    LINEUPS DEFENSIVE RATING
    Towns without Brunson: 112.1
    Brunson without Towns: 120.0

All told, the Knicks are +8.7 with Towns and no Brunson and +3.3 with Brunson and no Towns. Of course, the real problem is both of these guys together. It's likely too high a hurdle to clear if we're going to have a realistic conversation about title contention.

A lot of teams have been asking themselves that question, and they're pretty much all coming to the same conclusion. Unless your name is Stephen Curry (who actually isn't a bad defender, to be fair), it's probably not happening.

Kid just looks shook anytime someone pressures him. He’s a small 2 guard. Not a PG whatsoever.

I got home tonight and the first play I saw was Amen's dunk. The Spurs have dominated entirely since then.

Reed has a very long way to go. If teams are going to play target practice on him defending and he can't dribble around a single defender on the other end, I dunno. Maybe this is just an off game.

Or maybe this is a preview of playoff basketball.

Going 1-7 is fine, even during a stretch

But after a couple of misses this dude gets in his head (just like jabari). At his size he needs to be high energy ALL the time.

One thing I can't ever defend in the big leagues is playing like a pu$$y. Poor body language, step too slow, scared to shoot. It is a formula for failure.

Again, I've been attacked for criticizing Reed on this before, I don't have an issue with the shooting. But attitude absolutely has to be there and there is absolutely no excuse for it.
