When is enough lol? He played well last year and I thought could finish his career strong and make a case for the HOF.

He'll probably re-up with them for a longer term deal, even bigger money in overall value. They loved him and he loved being there from everything I've seen and read.

...doesn't Reagan have one more year of graduate school also?

I will be surprised if he leaves Boston, but it also wouldn't surprise me if he ends up in Arizona.

Did not realize... 1) he played catcher in high school, and 2) was originally drafted out of high school by the Red Sox.

Bregman's scouting report as catcher (from high school):
Also catches, raw footwork but quick hands and feet, playable arm strength, 1.87 best pop, will keep improving with repetitions.

    93rd percentile - pop time...

We could do the funniest thing.

After a pretty solid year, he's betting he'll get more than the $80m he was guarnteed when he hits the market - he's probably right. He may not get more per year but a longer contract/total value.

Trade Pena, sign Bregman, what could go wrong?

If they traded Pena, Sanchez, Dubon, Walker, and Urias, they’d probably create enough payroll space to sign Bregman and a BoR SP. Pena could bring back a cheap controllable SP, a good RP, and a prospect to boost the farm.
    3B Bregman
    1B Paredes
    DH Alvarez
    SS Correa
    2B Altuve
    C Diaz
    RF Smith
    LF Cole
    CF Meyers
Bench: Dezenzo, Salazar, Melton, TBD AAAA SS
SP: Brown, Pena trade, TBD FA, Javier, Arrighetti, Blubaugh
RP: Hader, Abreu, Sousa, TBD trade, King, Okert

Bregs ain't coming back. And no way we would have 3 guys on our team that all prefer to play third base.

At least none of them is Rafael Devers.

...but imagine getting rid of the "franchise" third base man for a one year rental like the Red Sox did...

Yeah, that was always the case, and why the Astros bid him adieu. Can’t blame him, it’s his prerogative to take care of his finances while he can.

Boston has the money to retain him. It’s just that Bregman might be teetering on a consistent 120 game played seasons, the man is no spring chicken; he breaks down way too often for my liking. So Boston can wait him out…

I think Rafael Devers showed his true colors, and Boston was lucky to find a taker for that knucklehead.

The 28 year old "knucklehead" who hit 30+ bombs and had 100+ RBI? I'd love to have him on our team.

Well Boston surged after trading him away. Meanwhile San Francisco bottomed out with him.

But I don’t generally follow those team, except for the obvious. So I don’t know what other factors contributed to the direction those teams took after the trade.

Devers contract would make it difficult to build an all around team; as Devers eats too much of the salary of a team.

But I would be in favor of Devers on the Astros roster, but definitely not at his high price! Perhaps if The giants ate a huge chunk of the money owed to him.

Devers is serviceable at 3B and is perfectly fine at 1st

Unless you're talking about someone else?

So all told, 6 years/210 million for Bregs, with possibly more money on the backend when he hits FA again, not bad.

I can't for the life of me figure why the Cubs would sign him of all teams. He's a guy that likes to pull fly balls, wrigley is a terrible spot for him.
