You say that but why not? He's free. You trade nothing for him you can do whatever you want. If he walks for nothing this summer, who cares it was free. Yeah he dominates the ball but every single game there are stretches i watch where I wish someone would take the ball. I don't want to watch Holiday or Eason try to beat their defender. I want Amen chilling in the dunker spot. Sengun should be receiving entry passes not starting actions on the wing. We need more on ball playmaking, Harden isn't here anymore.

CJ is expiring? They got no picks so just a salary dump for cap space? At least get a 2nd

Dude it’s a disaster waiting to happen if you bench a max player and only play him 20 minutes and yank him.

Also I haven’t done the math but the salary cap exists. Idk how we even fit in his salary without giving up key players.

our depth and key players matter a lot / we already have the stars

Apparently the Wizards were willingly to pay Trae Young his next contract.

I kinda like this for the Wizards. Looking at their cap space you can see why they could afford to resign Trae to an absurd contract while they hope their young core develops. They still will probably finish bottom 5 this year and could walk into a top 3 pick this year. They could be a lower eastern playoff team in 2-3 years if they get a top 3 pick and have their young core mostly hit.

Ultimately, the Wizard's success will depend on the young core and if they get a great player in this year's draft.

Hawks got two big expiring contracts (CJ from the trade and Kristaps) and the Pelicans unprotected pick to go in many directions.

Guessing that takes them out of the Giannis trade? Or maybe not if the Bucks never wanted to pay Trae.

We need a bench scorer in the worst way! Would love Monk

Let Trae try to score as many points as possible. Don’t even let him go to the defensive side of the court and waste energy. Just quickly pass him the ball and get a shot up. Wilt Chamberlain had 63 shot attempts in a game. I’d like Trae to go for 80 attempts. Wizards are going nowhere at least make it fascinating.

Very happy for CJ. He was going to be moved either way, both for financial reasons but also out of respect. He kept that locker room together. And, he's still clutch but an even better vet for an ATL locker room that wondered about TY's availability and productivity night in and night out. I'm a bit surprised that the Hawks couldn't get more because I'd be all over A. Sarr and perhaps Bub.

I don't think Washington wins this trade at all. I'm very much on the Pat Bev side of this; Trae isn't a leader in any sense of the word. He will have free rein in D.C. but he's not going to be embraced like prime John Wall. The Hawks improve with this trade and Washington...is a team in the NBA.

If CJ wasn't an expensive contract, I'd love him on the Rockets. As much as a PG is needed here with high IQ, handles and a limited desire to score among our immense talent, the Rox are actively looking at uplifting the bench (or starting lineup if money/DFF/etc don't elevate the team) with one more killer who can create and score without issue.

I miss having Lou Will coming off of the bench. The comfort of knowing he was going to obliterate the second unit at will was like some good wine on a Maine afternoon.

Sac-town (duh) AD, Greek Freak and Zach are the main hold-ups , with quiet rumblings of Minny shakeup are holding things up for now.

And yet, you have BK dangling its only star in the flat earther in the middle of the ish show.

Much love to you and yours, and Ime, give my guy Josh his minutes back. Thanks in advance.

Looks like salary dump on both sides, where hawks get a nice player is Kispert. It's obvious wizards need a star, yet it be crazy if Young opts out and wizards lose out.

Monk is great and wants out. Badly. He's just lost in the sauce with what Doug has in his rotations. Kudos to Russ for how he's played this year, but as often as I watch the Kings (stop the judgment! ;) )....it's odd to see Doug play 4 guards and Precious at times.

As bad as their record is (and that awful loss for us) Doug is an amazing coach. He holds everyone accountable but also is inclusive to allowing vets to provide feedback and changes to plays. The odd man out, because he is choosing to be, is Zach Lavine. they guy can do everything in the world except remain efficient.

If you can't get along with DeRozan, you have something personal distracting you from the game. DD is one of the most underrated hoopers with the most coachable , sacrificing personality in the league. Ask Greg P...DD will give up every midrange snipe to let the next guy win the game. Zach (as great as he can be) wants and feels like he needs the ball for any team he's on to win. He's not a cancer like CWood or Ben Simmons, but damn, I hope he figure it out in his next city.

It basically just means they lost out on 2-3 years of Cory Kispert?

    Pretty good gamble for them.

Did you just call Doug Christie an amazing coach? Or is that satire? He's one of the biggest clowns the league has ever seen.

It was free for Washington cuz they had the contracts to match. We would have had to send out 2 rotational players and Fred. It wouldn’t have been free for us

He isn't free when he opts in next year. And for us, he wouldn't have been free due to the salaries required to make the trade. Although after Bari's performance tonight, maybe him and FVV could be considered pretty cheap.

    That's not terrible for Washington.

I'm assuming Bub comes off the bench behind Trae, and they now have an experienced point who can lead the league in assists.

Trae can run an offence better than CJ, so it could result in better looks for Sarr, George, Coulibaly, Carrington and Johnson.
They'll all need to step up defensively though....

From Washington's point of view, they probably still want to make sure they are bottom 4 with that pick!

Tank Commander Trae. Definitely the correct role for him

    Trae: "The Wizards? That's it?"
    His agent: "That's it, bud."
Trae: (long pause) "Fu***********k." (long pause) "No one else? Really? What about Brooklyn?"
His agent: "I wasn't gonna tell you this, but Sean Marks' exact quote was, 'We already suck. You want me to pay Trae Young?'"
