i thought at the time it was absolutely skeezy that we cut a deal with him on the chemical weapons stuff and then started assisting the rebels before we'd even finished the disposal process. Our end of that deal was normalization of relations, and supporting rebels didn't seem to qualify, at the very least in spirit.

I still stand by that. It doesn't sit well with me. I feel like the US kind of welched on their end. He was a mentally ill monster, but a deal should be a deal.

I'm not sure how vocal I was about it at the time, though, so maybe there's a silent MAGA minority out there who is really not happy with this but keeping their mouths shut for now.

To wit, there was a very prominant anti-foreign war conservative poster around here in 2019 who just shut up and stopped posting for like two weeks when the US struck Qasem Soleimani, Iran shot missles back, and all the conservative doves were suddently calling for Iran to be turned into a glass parking lot. I'm sad to say I can no longer remember who, but I only noticed because I was trying to document the before and afters, and he literally disapeared just as the rage was boiling over.

The court upheld a 15-year ban on Machado, 56, from holding public office and also confirmed the ineligibility of a possible opposition stand-in – two-time presidential candidate Henrique Capriles. But the Supreme Court said Friday Machado would remain disqualified "for being involved... in the corruption plot orchestrated by the usurper Juan Guaido." Maduro has not confirmed he will seek a third term but is widely expected to do so.
