Longhorns are ranked #3 by themestream and #7 by The Sporting News. I've never heard of themestream before http://www.themestream.com/gspd_browse/browse/view_article.gsp?c_id=83695&id_list= &cookied=T #3 is way too high for Horns who haven't proven anything yet. I have a good feeling about this year especially opening with LA Lafayette. Any thoughts on Applewhite, Simms, the Horns in general? Toughest games have to be @Colorado and Oklahoma. I wouldn't be surprised with a 10-1 season. That might be expecting too much with the mistakes they had last year. Game times are set: Sept 9 LA - Lafayette 11:30 AM Big XII TV Sept 16 @Stanford 9:15 PM Fox SW Hook Em ------------------ It's all good! Interesting. It's hard to think of Texas vs. Oklahoma as one of "College football's greatest rivalry." Texas does have one of the greatest rivalries in all of football, but it's with a different team -- one much closer. ------------------ Stay Cool...
I'm ready. The monster recruiting classes of the last two years are poised to pay dividends. I'm counting on the Horns to be really good this fall...helping me take my mind off of the Astros! ------------------ Bring It!!
Actually, I think most people would say the Texas-Oklahoma rivalry is more prestigious nationally than Texas-Texas A&M. Bo Schembechler, the ex-Michigan coach, had a famous quote regarding Texas-Oklahoma-- "This is the most intense rivalry I've ever seen!"-- and he oughta know from rivalries. I've been to a half-dozen or so of each matchup, and to me, nothing compares to TX-OU in the Cotton Bowl. ------------------ You bring the bullets, I'll bring the wine.
God, I can't wait. This has been a merciless past 9 months or so. Right when the Rockets started, UT started sucking, the Packers didn't make the playoffs, Katy got beat in the state finals, the Astros suck, UT basketball choked in the NCAA tourney, and did I hear somewhere that UT was in the CWS? Now, we may draft Najera! I'm just happy that the Stanford game is at 7:15 Pacific time. That means I can see DMB the night before in Dallas, catch a redeye to San Jose, and watch the Horns beat up on the Cardinal! ------------------ Get your proper swirve on...visit www.swirve.com (coming in mid-June, for now visit www.eesite.com)
I am really excited about the three true freshman wideouts. B.J. Johnson (South Grand Prairie), Roy Williams (Odessa Permian), and Sloan Thomas (Klein)should give the Horns receiving crew a big boost. Mack has to have heard about the situation in Kentucky where Hal Mumme gave the starting job at QB to a redshirt freshman with no game experience over Dusty Bonner who led the SEC in several categories. Bonner transferred to Valdosta State. I don't want to lose Major but I think its time to see Chris Simms behind center. Texas A&M is always going to be good because of their defense. Again the Aggies will struggle on offense. I didn't list them as a big game cause I don't see them as a threat. Maybe by then the Aggies will have their QB problem in order, but the Ags are coming to Austin. ------------------ It's all good! [This message has been edited by Smokey (edited June 16, 2000).]
I hope those freshman can play as well. Had Cavil returned I would be a lot more comfortable with offesnsive outlook--way, way too many dropped balls last year--except by Cavil of course. Of course Adams and Pickney came in as fresh and made some impact, so I guess there is hope for the frosh. ------------------ "The Rockets were ahead of the Suns by 20 late in game 2 of the series, but when the going got tough, we just Pippened . We would not be done in the series though."
