Just saw that the death toll is at 16 now. Given there are people who still haven't been rescued I fear it's going to rise more.

 

Damn, sorry. Is it in one of the larger buildings? Perhaps higher up?

 

No lol. First floor condo, beach front.
It’s the yellow building with the rock break in front. Can see it behind the White House that’s basically in the water.
The pictures it actually looks like it held up better than most places around it.
Will wait to see what they say, may take a while

It's nice to know that human stupidity is a bigger threat to humanity's future than any other single factor like extreme weather or asteroids or diseases, LOL. And sigh.

One thing about a good-sized asteroid is that it may allow humanity to start fresh. So there's always that.

 

If you didn't read the article, some of the folks who had to stop work because of this nonsense were wildland fire crews and incident management teams. After hurricanes, they do a lot of opening roads, taking down hazard trees, and getting to hard-to-reach places.

To keep this out of D&D, I'll just offer two statements of fact:

National Weather Service meteorologists have received death threats for doing their job--forecasting and warning about the weather.

This is not a new occurrence for wildland firefighters. The number of armed encounters over the last few years has risen noticeably. When this happens, we leave immediately and may need to adjust our strategy and tactics if we can't work in an area because of a threat.

 

I don't have the patience for that type of work but do appreciate the folks that do.

I honestly can’t understand what these ‘militias’ hope to do here with FEMA workers. Even if the propaganda and rhetoric were true, the workers are just schmucks on the ground doing the jobs they were instructed to do.
