I would take Cuttino Mobley before Hamilton. Mobley's a better three point shooter and defender.

 

i like cuttino too, but i would take rip over mobley. his ability to move without the ball is unique and getting better. i think he is still growing as a player and is already a proven winner.

 

A few things...

-How can Kidd be the most overrated point guard ever? He's a proven winner who's been to the Finals twice. No way he's overrated.
-I found this really funny:

Stephon Marbury-A selfish, immature ballhog, who dribbles and shoots way too much turning the game into a one on one slugfest with his man and ignoring the team and the score. Extremely talented. Will be interesting to see how long it takes him and J. Crawford to lock horns over shots and dribbles."

For his career, Marbury has 9914 shots in 22450 minutes, meaning 2.2 shots per minute.

For his career, Francis has 5772 shots in 14825 minutes, or 2.6 shots per minute. He also averages 2 assists LESS per game.

How is selfish? Then again your credibility diminshes when you think Stephen Jackson is a point guard on the Kings and not a shooting guard on the Pacers.

My rankings would be:
1) Kidd -- Until his injury proves otherwise.
2) Iverson -- He's carried his team to playoff victories and to the finals, nobody else in this group but Kidd can say that.
3) Cassel -- Was awesome last year and has won 2 championships.
4/5/6) Marbury, Francis, Davis -- All will put up big numbers, none has been out of the first round, all criticized for scoring too much. Their talent groups them here, tied.
7) Mike Bibby -- Arguably best pick-and-roll in the game, his big shots.
8) Steve Nash -- Fantastic shooter, awesome at never picking up his dribble. So-so defensive player.
9) Billups -- Quarterbacked an NBA champion.
10) Tony Parker -- Also quarterbacked an NBA champion, I think he'll make the jump this year.
11) Gilbert Arenas -- Awesome scorer, questionable decision-making.

 

He did it in the East. When he was in the west, the suns record was about the same as with the Nets which made the suns perennial first round fodder.

The Rockets during their playoff drought had a better record in the East than the Nets during their final runs.

Wow, his SF list is very weird. He's got Richard Jefferson at 6 ahead of Kirilenko because Jefferson defends consistently. Um, hello Mr. Kahn, Kirilenko has more blocks, more steals, and more boards. He has almost as many points and assists per game as well despite playing in the West and for a lesser scoring team.

He goes on to put Antawn Jamison at 8, ahead of Lebron and Carmelo. I understand they were both rookies, and when starting, Jamison can be an excellent scorer, but if Jamison is the 8th best SF in the league, why the hell did Dallas start him all of 2 games??

 

If I had a team with scoring options and needed a true point, White Chocolate would be in my top 5.

 

Here's my own personal opinion bout the top pg's in the game
and why

1. JKidd - one of the few pg's that u can label a superstar. The others being magic and isiah. A leader, great defender, unselfish player, smart and well liked by his teammates. Athletic and a big time player, makes his teammates look good. A low fg pct does not diminish his value and his ranking as the best pg in the last 6 years.

2. Sam Cassell - its about time, Among all pgs he has the best stop and pop, the best spot up shot, unguardable. Hes not athletic compared to other pgs but he makes up with it with his unlimited shooting range which is very vital in the wolves offense. Not a good defender but who cares. They cant guard him either. A clutch player and his injury limited the chance of the wolves to beat the lakers.

3, AI - MVP. Enough said. But it would be a challenged for him to play the point anew. He used to be the pg in the pre Larry brown era. The result was bad. But hes been in the league for years now so it would be interesting to see him play the point once again. Unstoppable offensively, has decent defensive abilities, erratic and shoots too much. Very athletic, fearless. Injury prone becoz hes so banged up even before the season end.

4. Tie - SF, Starbury and BDavis
They are the hybrid pg's. Shooting guards in a point guards body. Very athletic, but selfish. Shoot first pass second pgs. Error prone and lacks the fundamental skills that make a player a great pg. Always leave their coaches in a quandary what the hell they are doing in the court. Very exciting pgs, playground basketball, but has so much more to prove.

5. Steve Nash
Great teammate, good spot up shooter, has great range including the 3 pt area, deceptively quick, unselfish player, smart, reads the situation well, knows his role and good complimentary player

6. Mike Bibby
A mirror image of steve nash. I just believe that nash is a bit better than mike bibby

7. Tony Parker
Two to three seasons from now, i will not be surprised if hes going to be number one. Super quick, athletic, great range, has some decent pg skills. It helps too that he has a teammate in Tim Duncan.

 

Jason Kidd is very very very good........yet he is overrated.

im all for steve and stephon bashing but uuh you're messing up your calculations. its 2.2/2.6 minutes PER shot. not the other way around. they have more minutes than shots so they can't have 2 some shots per min.

 

Wow, I can't believe I didn't notice that. Guess that throws that theory out of wack...

 

Yeah, how's steve supposed to make a shot clock violation if he's pumping up 2.2 shots per minute.

 

Francis is not a top15 PG... if you ask him to play PG!

Winning should count for something. After all, what ultimately defines how great a player is? Would you take Stockton over Magic? Would you take Karl over Larry Bird? Would you really take KG over Duncan? What is the ultimate definition of the greatness is their influence on the scoreboard and in the win column. That doesn't mean that you would take Horry over Malone either. Although if you were building a team of top 10 clutch shooters, you would have to put Horry on that list and you would have to leave Karl off that list. But, as far as which player would you ultimately pick to get you the closest to and winning a title, you would obviously take your chances with Malone over Horry, or Hakeem over DRob and Patrick, or Bird over Bernard King, Karl Malone, Dominique Wilkens, and any other high flying, top scoring forward that didn't have as much effect on getting their teammates to the championship. That's why the list of the top players at each position starts with MJ, Magic, and Bird, and then the discussion begins with which center and PF would you pair with the other three.

The reason I put Sam at the top of the list is because of his skills, his heart, his experience, his efficiency, and his attitude, in other words his ability to generate W's. He has the best chance at success this coming season as far as influencing his team to make it to the finals. I can't think of any point guard which would make the Twolves a better team if they were the Twolves point guard in place of Cassell, including Kidd. Kidd is hurt, and he can't shoot a lick. Is he a great open court point guard? No doubt. But in a tight half court playoff or championship game, which the vast majority of playoff and championship games are, do you really want Kidd putting up the 18 footer? Because in that kind of game, the defense is going to sag off him and make him beat them. I'll take Cassell over any of them this coming season.
