I need to chill for a while to keep my sanity. Now I know how Mets fans felt last season. I know it's not that bad, but it feels like it.
All morning it'll be "Well what do you expect them to do??? They have no choice but to play Abreu and run the pitchers they have, and DON'T fire anybody"
Astros are far worse. Mets seemingly had great potential, but as a whole, they didn't have any real track record of success. The Astros are are a dynasty. All things considered, they're having one of the most unpredictably worst seasons in sports history. The dynamic of how they're losing games -- whether it's the starters, bullpen, errors, bad luck, and/or hitting -- has been notoriously fascinating. Still early, but it's getting un-early and the hole is getting deeper.
It was fun cheering for baby Altuve and thinking about when Springer and Correa would join him. Now we are hoping that non-prospects turn into real contributors while our assinine owner plays GM for the majority of the payroll.
That is exactly how I feel, and it is eerily similar. That downturn in 2007 was on the back end of playoff success, and started when owner Drayton McLane started acting weird, and we had a moron GM in Tim Purpura failing at every single move (Woody Williams, Tejada trade, Jason Jennings). Crane is now started to do weird things and get advice from unqualified people, and Dana Brown is doofus.
Trade for Cooper. Bench Abrewho and Begs. Start Dubon at 3rd, Coop at 1st. Altuve Alvarez Tucker Yainer Pena Chaz Cooper Meyers Dubon Get it done.
Imagine if we had signed Snell on top of everything else going wrong right now. Even the moves we almost made ended up being bad. Dude has a 12 ERA and a whip of 2 right now. On second thought, he would fit right in with this team.
I'm not interested in arguing about it, but I don't find this that unpredictable. I always assume they'll win 163 games each season but when the entire starting rotation is down for a long period of time, you're not going to be very good. I know we're all upset with Abreu...I certainly am....but even if he was hitting some, I still don't think this team is notably better. They're giving up runs everywhere...they find themselves down multiple runs early a lot...and the back end of the bullpen has just been awful (that is definitely unexpected).
I was the first to downplay losing on opening day but if we didn't blow that lead, I don't think this snowballs like it has. This will pass.
