Because unlike Montero who still is younger and had similar velocity/spin metrics (just horrible command)…. Pressly is showing signs of wear/tear that is both age related or usage related. he’s still going to pitch and likely gets more wiggle room to figure it out due to his track record and salary… but this is also the same reason why JAbreu is being put jn the lineup, so if I’m to be consistent… Ryan deserves similar scrutiny on being “washed”.
The only saving grace is that this undoubtedly makes them look worse than they likely really are. 9th inning collapses always hurt more. early season losses also get remembered/magnified more due to simply being early season. Put them together… and sky is falling (and nothing wrong with venting about it… this sucks). glass half full scenario: weaknesses being shown early enough to actually possibly do something about them.
I’m really think we need to fired Espada to reset this team. Still early to salvage the season. IMO, Espada has managed to **** up the lineups and bullpen so much that even this veteran team can’t trust him privately. We need new voice in the dugout the fire up this team The FO even worse but can’t just fired everyone in middle of the season but I asked that Crane let his GM do his jobs. I also don't care if we’re playing cupcakes next few weeks. Like it or not, we’re cupcakes ourselves.
Blown 2 consecutive saves (both 2 run leads and coming to a clean inning). has really only had one clean inning while trying to protect a lead all season. he hasn’t been that much worse than the other guys who have also been bad… but he’s also got concerning velocity, spin, age, and usage. He was regressing last year no matter how you slice it. His regression helped push the Hader trade. He’s just one of the many issues… but he is an issue.
If I was the Astros GM, I would’ve signed Hader too. But the facts are this: Hader has been dog sh— , while Pressly and Abreu have looked damn near equally bad. Would it surprise me if this self-corrects and we eventually get the dominant 7-8-9 we all expected? Not at all, but I’m not going to sugarcoat the #1 reason for The Astros disastrous first month of the season. The manager? Maybe. Jose Abreu? Yeah, he’s a zero, but this team has hit well enough to have won a hell of a lot more games than they have if it wasn’t for the almost complete zero they’ve been getting out of their high-priced pen
This isn’t just a slow start to the season. It’s an absolute disaster man. what a bizzaro world we are living in. montero is good pressley abreu and hader are bad.
What gets glossed over the 2004 teams’ miraculous turnaround was trading Dotel and promoting Lidge. Yes, Beltran was a huge force in the playoffs but the 2004 lineup was good enough to win. Lidge/bullpen really did a lot of heavy lifting. problem wjth this team is that they’re all pitching inconsistently. They’re all worse than Dotel was. And really only Bryan Abreu has trade value… and they’re not trading him.
All f***ing around aside, I thought we had this one. But to go back and look at the way we lost it, I just don't have words for it.
They overcame a meh start, floundered at .500, then went 36-10 to finish the season and went to game 7 of the NLCS, had Clemens on the mound, and had a lead. Would you take a game 7 of the ALCS if offered right now? The 36-10 run was as impressive a run of any Astros team out there (including golden era teams)… and they were basically playing must-win baseball every night. Lidge (and stabilization of the bullpen) had a huge impact on that. This team has a lot of those components. Great lineup (even with Abreu who = Ausmus now), Solid starters that stands to get better and better as the year goes on… and a bullpen that is completely crappy.
