Brazil is awesome except for the vastly under reported homicide rate, roving gangs that control the local police, rampant drug cartels, domestic violence tolerated and general corruption and unease that is permeates the entire country… oh and of course armed robberies.

I will say this though - it is never a boring place. Just avoid the machetes.

I would go back if I were single - not happening with a family.

I suspect that you were never a subscriber to a higher moral authority.

Their cities are purportedly the most violent in the world, even exceeding the monolithic violence found in most Democratic ghettos, which is staggering.

Jesus didn’t say anything about any of these topics. Jesus really didn’t seem concerned with them.

Because they either didn't exist or weren't amplified by media.

Also, we don't know everything he ever said, so...

Incorrect. Jesus detests sin, which is anything that goes against the Father in Heaven, of whom Jesus is. We are supposed to love and obey our creator. God despises homosexual behavior.

    John 8:29
    English Standard Version

29 And he who sent me is with me. He has not left me alone, for I always do the things that are pleasing to him.”

What did Jesus say about dog fighting? I don't recall him saying anything. Does that mean it's ok with God to have dogs fight?

    Every country in the world.

It's not about whether or not countries punish/censor/control speech, but about their rules and what the details are. Is it viewpoint discrimination, opposition discrimination, appropriateness discrimination, etc. Countries censor p*rn, hate, misinformation, libel. Countries have their own cultures and laws. It's very basic to say censor = totalitarian regime, when it's much more complicated than that.

It's a huge country with variation in safety. Yes, I have friends who worked on cell towers in the gang areas that needed private security escorts, but everybody needs cell coverage so they were left alone, lol. Also have family and friends living there in very safe areas.

I agree with the general corruption, but that permeates many 3rd world countries. I'll say this, I think the way many foreigners don't understand America's vast size and regional differences, that it happens with Brazil too.

Don't be obtuse. Dude/lady replied to my post talking about how great the country is to visit.

Free speech is a complicated issue. Hope Brazil doesn't become China/,Turkey/Russia in that arena, but it's not like Brazil ever cared for robust free speech rights under the prior conservative regime.

Which is why I find it hypocritical that MAGA Christians lash out about the "immoral deviant homosexuals" while committing so many other sins themselves. God called many things sins, and nobody has lived a sin free life, but that man they choose as their Savior is no better than any other sinner, and seems like an odd pick as a man to call the one chosen by God.

There's a whole lot of sinning going on around the world. The leaders pretending to purge their country from evil are often the biggest sinners of them all. If their supporters think they haven't committed a few of these sins below then I'd say they are naive.

    Galatians 5:19-21

Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, 20 idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, 21 envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

    Proverbs 6:16-19

There are six things the LORD hates, seven that are detestable to him: 17 haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, 18 a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, 19 a false witness who pours out lies and a man who stirs up dissension among brothers.

I find it batshit crazy that some people actually call Trump, of all people, their Savior, or worship him like he's God's chosen one. It's cult mentality.
Here's a perfect example that has me shaking my head....

"According to MAGA-minded “prophets” with dubious gifts of divination, the eclipse is a signal of God’s design for America, and another marker that former President Donald Trump is heaven’s “anointed” candidate."

The free speech restrictions started with the current regime.

Let's not keep giving authoritarians excuses by saying "others did stuff, too" when it's not true.

Everyone is a sinner, some more or less so than others.

I believe you are out of touch with regard to your belief that Trump voters "worship" him.

Rolling Stone is a GARBAGE source for anything. I wouldn't believe them if they told me what they ate for breakfast.

Yea, free expression is overrated. Government must dictate what opinions we're permitted to share with others.

Which likely doesn't remotely compare to the corruption of the U.S. Government.

Did you read the articles? Again, this is complicated and are you up for a serious discussion. Also, I'm quite opposed to government free speech overreach, but I'm also not ready to put Brazil in the same category as China for speech rules. Bolsanaro was far from a free speech advocate.

You are definitely not up for a serious discussion. And I'm an extreme 1A absolutist here in the US. If you think that's what I wrote and meant, then we cannot have a meaningful discussion here as I think you are here to just to spew.
