Wow. 9 HR in 12 games. Unreal. I guess go ahead and slap a 70 grade power on him. 50 grade speed. 50 grade arm. 50 grade glove. Solid walk rates. So a 35 grade hit tool (which is what he projects to right now given his k rates) probably still makes him a 1.5-2.5 win player. But a continued development to a 40 grade or 45 grade would probably make him 2.5-3.5 win player and a 50 grade hit tool (which is probably his best case) makes him a star.
Call it a comeback. I ain't mad. I've been gone for years. I prefer to call it a COME UP for me and MAH PEERS.
He did start white hot, but not this level of power. He was supposedly hitting the ball hard, but he wasnt getting good lift so his contact wasn't turning into enough HR's. It sure as hell is so far this season. Higher than ideal K rate is a lot more tolerable on a HR hitter than it is a doubles hitter.
Interestingly he pushed his already high TTO numbers from 55% in AAA in 2023 to to 61.5% this year. That's Joey Gallo level (career 59% TTO). I'm curious to see what he does in the bigs.
I think this is a fluke based off of his SwStr rate unless he’s watching a ton of strikes (doesn’t seem that way). He seems more like a 25-30 K% guy in the majors, which is high but not that bad. He also would need to hit more fly balls as well.
Everyone cools off after leaving Albuquerque. It's one of the most hitter friendly ballparks in all of baseball. It's very commonly >95%ile in HRs, Runs, and BABIP in the minors.
