The Washington Establishment is neck-deep in this as evidenced by the fact that state media isn't covering it. Don't be a sucker and believe them when they say they care about democracy. No entity is more opposed to democracy than the Washington Establishment.

Leftists want to silence and incarcerate their opponents. See: Stalin, Pol Pot, Chinese re-education camps, the leftist mob on this sub-forum.

I know 2 doctors from river oaks that love going to Brazil. They say it's the safest country in the world and they want to keep it a secret.

Brazil is great. Go all the time.

Also, social media companies, unfortunately, do business with authoritarian regimes all the time, and do their bidding. I didn't feel Brazil was that way prior to Bolsonaro, during, or after. But maybe things have changed. I suggest y'all go yourselves. It's a very diverse environment with such an interesting history. Huge country.

Funny how maga cares about Brazil all of a sudden. Seems the major changes that sparked this was the former far right wing president losing in an election (and similar to trump, he falsely claimed election fraud and his supporters tried to overturn the election by storming government buildings) and maga car saleman's squabble with fake free speech squabble with Brazil's supreme court over whether he can spam Brazil's social media with disinformation.

Here are some interesting articles about Brazil authoratianism under Bolsonaro, Lula, disinformation, free speech, and how that country has dealt with those issues:

    https://www.cigionline.org/articles/in-brazil-techno-authoritarianism-rears-its-head/
    https://freedomhouse.org/article/brazils-democracy-confronts-looming-threat-election-denial
    https://www.opendemocracy.net/en/de...s-disinformation-lula-restore-trust-internet/

I don't know if the current regime is going too far, but it was pretty well known that Bolsanaro was not a free speech free press guy, who only wanted his truth to be the truth. So it's pretty silly that all the conservatives who lost are now big free speech people, since that's not how they acted when they were in charge.

I'm a big free speech person. I'd be very wary of government overreach, but at the same time acknowledge the deleterious impacts of disinformation and even cheap speech. I enjoy Brazil, the country, very much. I have no grasp on the Constitution of Brazil. Until you hear about people getting imprisoned for political speech (China, Vietnam, Russia), then I see this as more whining and sky is falling type crap that is done by the losers of elections.

I've never met a leftist that didn't love totalitarian regimes and I don't expect to find any exceptions here.

You think I'm a leftist, lol. And do you honestly think Brazil currently is a totalitarian regime? Do you think I wrote that it's great now as a country to visit, but wasn't great under the prior leader, as a country to visit?

I don't think my original post had any analysis or insight on Brazilian politcs. Also, only MAGA has ever called me a leftist. I'm sure non-MAGA can call me that too, but whatever.

Where did he call you a leftist? He made a (correct) general observation.

As to Brazil being a great country to visit, true, but has little to nothing to do with the topic of this thread, which is the overreach of a leftist supreme court justice in conjunction with a leftist government.

Yes, in a libertarian sense, but today's "liberals" (as the term is used in the US) are not.
