Shooting. Consistent shooting, particularly from 3pt range. Until either our guys develop a good shot, or we trade some of them for good shooters, we will wallow in mediocrity. We have so many wide open 3pt shots, that just clank off the rim or backboard..... I hope they all get in the gym this offseason and work on 3pt shooting, as well as shooting in general. SHOOTING is the key. DD
Much was made of Udoka adding a great shooting coach to his staff, last offseason. This offseason will be huge for the shooting development of the team. We will see.
I agree we need shooting. But, we might also need another guy that can play the point, as well as the two....ala Murray. FVV is not the longterm guy out top, and his contract should be moved with picks before the break IMO for a star. Amen likely takes over there eventually, but we need another that can play on a high level too. A SF could also be in the cards. (for Green?)
Actually agree with DD on this one. We need to acquire a combo guard who can shoot it at around 40% or better, and we need all the young guys to prioritize their jump shots over the offseason, especially Alpi, Jalen, and Amen. Stoney needs to be on the phone with Presti all offseason trying to make something happen to acquire Cason Wallace, IMO. Perfect fit for our team as currently constructed. Dillon should be available if they want him. Or a three-teamer to get them a big man, maybe. Maybe they want to reunite with Steven Adams? But then we'd be back to needing a backup center ourselves, unless you're confident in Jock's revival.
I know a pg who knows his back up role, can run an offense, shoot the threes and plays team defense. But Felicia doesn't want to hear it. I'm tired of sayin' his name. Also, Monk as the back up SG. He can give you 37%. Grayson Allen, 40% Starting five: Sengun, 33% while he doesn't want to shoot them, Udoka recently spoke about catching him up on needing to shoot them. Jabari, Improves to 40%. lol probably still gets 5 FGAs from the rest of the team though Amen Improves to 20% Green, Just stay at 35%, please. I'd be good if he shot 35% consistently for the next 5 seasons. Fred, 38% from threes Brooks: 36% Cam: 40% Monk/Grayson Allen/Jones: 37% Eason: improves to 37% from corner threes. Rookie TBD: 35% Holiday 38% The strange thing is they went into a stretch in February where they all shot poorly. That happens for a couple of games not for a month. And individually they were better shooters
Sure, shooting is a problem but this team doesn't have a star either ..... It needs both. I think you can solve the shooting problem in this coming draft, assuming you have a top 8 pick as there are about 10 dudes that shoot 40%+ from distance and 5 of those are expected to be ~top 10ish picks. The others are second round guys .... Lotto picks Risacher Williams Sheppard Dillingham Knecht 2nd round shooters Hunter Sallis Pelle Larsson Ajay Mitchell Cam Spencer Solving the star problem is another animal ..... someone needs to grow into that role in a hurry.
I'm not sure we have a future #1A superstar, but I'm not sure we don't, either. I'm pretty confident we have multiple future all-stars on this roster though, and I'm pretty confident we're not going to get a star player out of this draft class. (I'm not saying there won't be any stars in this draft, I just think the odds are extremely low that we land one.)
Agreed with the shooting..If they can acquire a legit shooter or 2 to come in and hit a few 3s in about 15 minutes of play per night , it'll open up everything.. especially when they're stagnant as hell
