Wemby will be great but likely only for a short time based on history. I wonder how Alpi would have faired in one of those DARKO charts as a rookie if he were given the keys to the castle in his rookie year just like Wemby has? I bet his line would have a high slope too but not as much as Wemby due to defensive deficencies. I know Alpi will never be close to Wemby defensively but he may give him a run for his money on the offensive end. We have already have seen he can manhandle Wemby one on one.

Basketball was never a 1 Man game and Wemby's roll can be slowed.

Wemby being able to make 3's at a 10% higher clip offensively as a rookie separates himself from Sengun rather quickly. No amount of deflection and finger pointing will change that even if Sengun would have been "given the keys". It all starts and ends there for a modern big. Sengun is a better passing big man than Vic, but Vic is a play finisher more than a play initiator. If Wemby puts on weight/strength he will be better suited to tackle post players like Sengun.

edit: as far as the history aspect I'd be more concerned about the 'heavy' big men vs the tall big men.

Even if he was a Rocket I wouldn't say Wemby is the goat rookie or a top 10 NBA player. LeBron was playing with trash teammates and they won 15 more games than the Spurs, almost 50% more. Bruh.

If he influences the game so much why the Spurs only won 19 games?

You can't say the dude is so impactful and then make excuses like the Spurs have a trash team or are tanking.

Spurs are tanking but Wemby isn't. If the Spurs are tanking despite Wemby's effort how does he impact the game so much?

Are they really tanking? What for? Didn't they say next year's draft isn't very good?

Right. The player metrics speak for themselves. SA is not rolling with their 'best' lineups on purpose.

Come on man…really? Are they really tanking is a serious question?

This draft isn’t very good if you are looking for a Wemby. It’s not bad at all if you are looking for guys to fit with your Wemby.

So what? There's a diff between the typical tanking team and 19 wins which are among the worst in NBA history. How can Wemby be "so impactful" if not rolling the best lineup only gets them 19 wins?

I'd say that's someone with no impact since he cant win games unless the perfect lineup is used despite his monster stats.

    Impact = win or loss

For example the Rox lost a lot of games the past 3 yrs even when Jalen Green was going off for 30 PTS that meant he had little to no impact. This year after ASB the Rox almost always won when Jalen popped off and they lost when Jalen had a bad game that's impacting the game.

Wemby averaging 21 10 3.8 3.6 which are monster stats but Spurs only won 19 games which means he has little impact on the game result. In fact he had 40/18 Vs Philly and they still lost lol. That's why I don't consider him goat rookie he doesn't impact the game like LeBron or Luka.

I haven't been following the Spurs closely. Did they sit their franchise player for many games?

I would say they're easily the worth coach in the nba and probably worst FO in the nba, maybe you could argue they're 2nd or 3rd worst but that's a stretch IMO

Wembanyama is more consistent than Jalen Green. Wembanyama is a better prospect than any player drafted over the last 20 years. Listen to yourself you are trying to talk yourself out of reality by posturing that wins and losses equals impact.

Why are you guys so defensive about praising Wemby? He's good for the sport. Sengun dropped 40+ on his head hold on to that while you can. Watching Wembanyama highlights is wacky stuff. He does things with ease that dont seem possible on the court. He could just stay camped out in the paint and baby hook his way to 20/10 each night, but he expands the norms for big men. Its ok to admire that.

They have had a positive rating with wemby on the court for a while now, he's just not playing 48 mpg. The nuggets with Jokic when all his guys were hurt played at like a 70 win pace with him on the court but won only 46 or something, cause they team sucked. He also started slow, he wasn't a top 20 guy at the start of the season, that only started a couple months ago.
