We may be leaning to the thought of not really wanting to have Diggs on this team 1-3 years from now and would rather bet on having options/choices with cap flexibility. I know I'm stating the obvious but that's all I can see here.

WR is on the table for this year too. There isn't a rule where they can't find another home for Metchie/Sims/etc.
(1) It’s a good thing they aren’t multi-year committed to a 31-year old WR that has already showed signs of decline. (2) It’s a bad thing they gave up a #2 for a 1-year rental. (3) WR high in this year’s draft is back in play. (4) My guess in the long run is Buffalo will be happy getting a #2 back for an aging, possibly declining talent, but the dead cap hit will temper that happiness

I get the sentiment but these guys are still creating a culture here; Nick, DeMeco, heck even Cal’s wife as an owner. We created such a crappy situation for players and their teams that we have to treat these star players with kid gloves. Especially one that was just traded to get onto the squad. If you noticed Mixon received an extension himself after being traded here. We could have easily allowed him to ride out his contract just like Diggs. Even if it’s not Diggs and camp, players will continue to take notice that this org takes care of its players. It may not pay dividends on this particular player but it will go a long way, in the future with similar type trades/signings.
You’re insufferable at times. Stop getting your panties in a bunch because I don’t think the same as you. And if you notice, I didn’t rank Puka 2nd. Top 10 yes. So yes, CJ is top 10. Not better than Allen, not yet anyway.
I'm not a fan of the restructure. It makes no sense. Like others said, the Texans had all the leverage, and I don't think he would have given us any dead money if cut any time after this year. What if we can't re sign Nico? We end up with neither Diggs or Nico? This was never a long term player - 3 years max, but to shorten the deal for no reason, makes little sense to me.
If we get to the super bowl or get there and win it next year i can see Nick really showing everyone how he really feels about the WR position. CJ is the straw that stirs the drink. Meco keeps saying we seek WR's that can separate, get open and catch the ball. I think CJ has some pull here on receivers he would personally want but I don't see us truly locking in on really paying a receiver big $$$.
So, we can hold him hostage for a year or two? What if Nico all of a sudden decides he's worth top 3 WR money? I don't think he is. Does Nick? Doubt it. Now you have neither Nico or Diggs. You went from a top 3 WR room in the league to having Tank (who may be fragile) as your WR1? I love Tank, and I think he's legit, but I'd rather have another good wr or two to go with him.
We are already in a situation. Do we pay Nico for one good year or let it play out? We can do what-ifs all day. I trust Nick. If it doesn’t workout contract wise with Nico, I believe he’ll find another WR. Same with Diggs. Plus, CJ will be a lot more seasoned in Year 3. I have all the faith in the world in CJ/Nick/Demeco to make it work. Nick is keeping options open and not being caught in bad contracts and I’m for it.
